As an aside, what is the point of APC's? Why not have a tank with room for troops as well?

makes perfect sense to me. I'd wonder about the viability of cross-training as well so that you have a few of the passengers also versed in driving a tank so that they could take the role of driver should something happen to the main driver.

I think the idea is to make tanks as small profile as they can be. Making room for passengers would make it larger.

APCs are mean to be armored personnel carriers.
