Masterchef: The Professionals

The most recent series is still ongoing. I appreciate that they can't do a "Sherry Pie edit" to use a Drag Race reference, so I wonder just how far the ratings will plummet as a result

I notice that Wallace is claiming only middle class older women complained. It wouldn't occur to him that only that group would feel secure enough in their status to complain. Even then, it was mostly overlooked but at least didn't cost the complainant their career.

Specifically from the Celebrity version of it. Not hard to see the difference in power there compared to the regular/pro versions is it.

Greg's cockernee barra boy salt of the earth antics have never amused me. He's the guy who sold the programme fruit and veg and has no relevance to food beyond that as far as I'm concerned. When judging the plates, does anyone really care what he thinks or how much he laughs at the reaaallllyyy meaaatyyyyy sauuuuuceee? If he hates the dish and the other two like it, job's a good 'un. I could live without the pretence that his opinion matters at all.

He's done a video response thanking people for messages of support. No comment on the allegations, of course. Ciao mamma. So who will be his replacement? Jay Raynor seems the most media-friendly of the associates. Or some pleasant general presenter? I don't really care; I'm there for the actual food not comedy relief.
Si King FTW

There's two weeks of the show left. I don't think Wallace has been accused of anything prosecutable yet - sackable, yes, but criminal, not so sure. We're not quite into Savile territory.

I'm sure the BBC would dearly love it if he were to shut his mouth right now, though.

I doubt it'll make much difference to the ratings. Wallace is a side-show to the main event. People watch it for the contestants and the inventiveness of the dishes they produce, not for him, surely? It would be different if he were the main/sole presenter but he's just the sleazy, sweaty sidekick he's always been.

And if there's only 2 weeks to go, as littlebabyjesus says above, I can't see the Wallace issue making much of an impact on viewing figures. It might even enhance them, people now alert to the sleazebag he is, tuning in to see the sleazebaggery for themselves.

Just being realistic here.

It's a painful watch. I watched one of the latest on demand episodes last night, which go out before they're screened on TV. It feels very weird watching him judging female contestants.

I guess Wallace could be positioning for a role as GB News's first TV Chef.. i hear its quite lucrative working over there. Failing that there's always a regular slot of Channel 5 daytime TV.

We're in the stages that matter in culinary terms so he's going to be in it less. I'm sure we'll get to see him grinning away at the Chef's Table and whatever fancy restaurant on a cliff in Greece they'll be visiting.

This is also kind of insinuating that other women (young? working class?) don't have a problem with him.

(This was said on a radio programme I was listening to earlier, so not an original thought from me, but one I agree with).

I guess he'll be welcome wherever misogynistic men and women gather and rule. He's only offended women, after all. Hardly a crime.

I checked out the DM comments section on the story (won't link to it). Somewhat unbelievably even all the men on there are condemning him. Which is a pretty low bar. Couldn't see a single person, male or female, supporting him.

He should just shut his gob at this point. But it would be hilarious in a way if he keeps digging.

This will do him good in some circles. "can't say anything these days" "getting cancelled for saying a few rude jokes" "the BBC is so woke these days" etc etc.

I don't know if that gets him work anywhere but still.

Tbh, I've never watched Masterchef so only had a very vague idea of who he was before this (I'd heard the name but not sure I knew what he looked like.) Still, seems I wasn't missing anything at all.
