mass grave of 800 infants found at Galway 'fallen women' home

Charlotte Keckler ...an ex Carmelite nun, outlines the cruelty of convent life as she experienced it..
Looks like the nuns treated their own dreadfully...in a sadiatic, horrifyingly cruel way. These women were dehumanised, brainwashed, physically, emotionally and sexually abused too.
Her story is below...it starts when she is 12 or so...it's a harrowing read.

I wouldn't link to that site if i were you, they're christian identity. (racist Christians) is it available elsewhere?

That is a totally horrifying account.

And despite her treatment at the behest of the catholic church, she remains a christian.
That I can not understand.

I told my mum about this, she said she would get an Irish Paper to read about it, I want to talk to my 2 nun aunties about it as well, they never looked after kids, one is a nurse in the states, the other has now retired but used to work with adults with learning difficulties at a place in Streatham

It comes from a seriously anti catholic christian site.

I'm hard pressed to find sympathy for nuns who were "only following orders".

Probably because the true Christian message and origin has and had fuck all to do with powerful religious groups formed to control people ?

I have none whatsoever! As human beings we know in our hearts what is right and what is wrong. People under the Nazi regime possibly had that excuse as they would probably been killed if they hadn't followed orders...a huge difference between the two set of circumstances.

Reading that (on the other link) I realise that I know really very little about the Roman Catholic Church ... That's quite a tale.

Catherine Corless has replied to my email about how to donate to a memorial for the Tuam children, there's an online donations page here or I have bank details and an address for cheques which I will give out by pm if anyone wants those.
Blimey, either the average donation so far is about £140 or there have been some big donations. I can't stretch that far.

The catholic church is one of the wealthiest organisations in the world. It isn't possible to accumulate that much wealth without being a cunt, ergo, the catholic church is a cunt.

Probably some big donations. I don't think they're expecting everyone to give huge amounts to be fair, just what people feel comfortable with.

The Charlotte Keckler testimony is questionable. It bears a striking resemblance to Maria Monk's book, "the awful disclosures of Maria monk" allegedly based on her experiences in an early 19th century convent in canada.

Thought so: just on stylistic grounds it's dodgy as fuck...

It's long been the battle ground between catholic apologists and anti-catholic propagandists. The thing does not hold together at all. I wouldn't go near it.

After I posted last night I went and read a 'deconstruction' of her story on another site, and the Maria Monk story. Some of it does seem a bit extreme, yet I have no doubts even if things didn't happen to her things were seriously awry within the church.

For sure bad things happen in nunneries - as they will anywhere with that much secrecy and authority.

But that particular account screamed "anti-Catholic bondage porn" at me... and thanks to others who've read more widely in those particular wastelands for confirming this!

Lol yes, I hadn't made that connection but now you come to mention it that is an accurate description.

Because she sees past the edifice (the church) to something she finds of spiritual value (faith and the teachings of the Bible, unmendiated by a bunch of money-grubbers)?

It amazes me that there are Irish people who appear to be genuinely shocked and claim they knew nothing of the ritualistic child abuse that was rife in Ireland.

My uncle told me a story of his short-lived days in the CBS (Christian Brothers School). He recalled how a certain priest would visit the school every week and 10 or 12 lads would be dragged from their lessons and taken to see him. They would stand facing the wall in a corridor and one by one would be called in the see the priest. The priest would cane their hands then get his cock out and make them play with it.
My uncle told me he lasted about 6 weeks in the school before telling his father about it and he never went back.

I took the story with a pinch of salt, until a friend of my dad told me the exact same story. He was in the same school but a year or two later, and the same thing was happening. This guy told his parents about the abuse he was receiving and his parents battered him for daring to say such a thing about the priest. I have no reason to disbelieve this fella and he assured me that everyone knew what was going on in those schools and they just turned a blind eye because nobody dared say anything against the church.

Yes, that's exactly what it was like. . .

http://www.oneinfour.ie

One in four people in Ireland experience sexual abuse.
There is no reason to believe that things were any different fifty years ago. The stats are frightening.
And as one lady said to me, "if one in every four is abused could it mean that another one in four is an abuser?".

According to the site, one in four children will experience sexual abuse before they are 18.
