Major Incident in Nottingham - 13th June 2023

I heard all the sirens going off and saw multiple emergency services flying in all directions about 90 minutes ago. My guess is a bomb threat but nobody knows anything yet.

Rumours are going around saying somebody is on the rampage doing multiple stabbings but it just a rumour atm.

yes - the tram incident was yesterday, and apparently a lightning strike on the overhead power line.

a tram derailment / accident would not generally need a response from armed police units...

Son Q works in the middle of Nottingham, the instant she got to school Mrs Q phoned him convinced that he was caught up in whatever this is. Apparently they have locked the doors of the block where he works and have banned everyone from going outside. No-one is doing any work though. They are peering out of windows and the roof is packed with rubberneckers. He has no more idea what is going on than anyone else though it is apparently very quiet with no traffic.

Someone on Sky News just got cut off for saying what went on. He was saying a car ran into a bunch of people, driver got out and starting stabbing people, 4 dead according to him. Kay Burley cut him off though. Why all this secrecy?

They are firefighters in their ballistic protection. They can work in the 'warm zone' of a firearms job, which means somewhere there may be a person with a gun. So probably responding to an active shooter incident. (Active shooter doctrine is used for any ongoing threats to life issue, not necessarily one where the subject(s) has/have a gun, could be knives or cars etc. )

Trying not scare the public too much. You can still walk around the edge of the city. Nobody is being told to stay indoors or anything.

Although I realise by not trying to scare the public that they are scaring the public.

Because the emergency services don't like to speculate in fluid unclear situations, because otherwise, at best, people bang on afterwards about how they put out the wrong information, or another conspiraloon theory gets born and at worst the public make wrong decisions based on guess work and people die .
