London to Lincoln - Fare tips

Fingers

From Tuscany SE22
Travelling to Lincoln from London after 5.30pm this Friday. I did have some tickets but my friend can't finish work until after it goes so we have to buy some new ones.

They were £26 when I booked them at lunchtime and my browser crashed, when I tried again they have gone up to £52 each.

Anyone know how we can get cheaper ticket than this as we can't afford £104 for a pissy 2 hour journey

Cheers!

F

When are you travelling back? Open returns are expensive, but if you book on a particular train for the return journey you should be able to do it mroe cheaply.

London Kings Cross 18.03
Grantham 19.15 / 19.24
Sleaford 19.53 / 20.07
Lincoln 20.41

Showing up as £27.40 "advance" ticket on nationalrail.co.uk

The £26 single listed by roadkill below shows up on eastmidlandstrains.co.uk as well.

Trainline is still showing £26 single on the 1749 from London, changing at Newark, but it would probably be as well to book that quickly...

Thanks loads for looking these up for me guys. I have no idea what was going on earlier. It was giving me £26 for two tickets then doubing the overall price to £90 something whne going to pay for it. Nightmare.

Anyway, managed to get the £26 fare in the end from the National Express East Coast Line website.

How I wish for the good old days when you could turn up on spec, pay a reasonable fare and get there, even though the BR sarnies were shit.

Thanks again guys.

for future reference -

east midlands trains (the stagecoach thing that does the old midland main line) does 'megatrain' deals on london - nottingham (in theory starting at £ 1 single although there's not many of them and you have to book at exactly the right time)

slightly longer way round of doing it (although if you were prepared to consider changing at grantham and sleaford, probably no slower than that...)

I wonder whether the price being silly was the tickets you'd already booked being 'cached' in a shopping basket thing somewhere, and added on to the ones you were then trying to buy?

I know I almost bought some stuff on Amazon a while ago, then found it cheaper on Ebay just before I hit "pay" - when I logged on a month or so later it was still in the basket and if I hadn't noticed it was there I'd have ended up buying it a second time.
