Everyone wants that but I've never seen the plans for an affiliated space program.
So In the meantime we can be grateful that wealth disparity gives us a space program.

Or you could have nothing, not that it's cost you a bean.So In the meantime we can be grateful that wealth disparity gives us a space program.
?? You think Musk isn't paying his fair share of UK tax? US tax point of view he's just shown up massive government inefficency
Or you could have nothing, not that it's cost you a bean.
He's just made it a fuck site more efficient than state efforts have been up til now..I’m fairly certain space could still be explored without the need to be thankful to wealthy private interests doing it for us.
So apart from moaning about something that hasn't cost you anything, has no noticeable impact on social funding and is - quelle surprise - most likely run by someone who isn't the workers' friend, you can't see any good in the mission? There’s a social cost to it. Lots of private firms do good things. But they still accrue their wealth by shitting on workers.
Branson can fuck off.If we're going to go there...
The UK's equivalent space entrepreneur, Richard Branson, most definitely isn't paying his fair share of UK tax (yeah I'm very sure he complies with the rules, that is not the same thing).
Musk, to the extent he isn't financed by the lucky break he got from being in the right place at the right time with PayPal is largely financed by government:
His car and battery factories have been deeply subsidised by the state governments in the US
His first rocket launches were paid through NASA subsidies through programmes to boost the private sector
Electric car sales are subsidised by governments around the world and at least in Germany Tesla has been cheating the system (which only allowed subsidies for cars where the base model was below €50k) by claiming that cheaper cars were on sale when in fact they did not make cars at that price
Most of the rest of the income of SpaceX is through satellites launched for governments
Of course Elon Musk doesn't pay any tax though, but unlike Branson that doesn't imply any offshoring, all Musk's enterprises are loss-making.
None of this though takes away from this launch being an awesome spectacle and just the sort of thing rich people who are allowed to keep ungodly fortunes by craven governments *should* be doing. One nutter putting a coupe in space is worth more than 100 Murdochs.
I've been thinking today what has disgusted me about the car thing...maybe im just a grumpy git, but i think there is a reason why...and I think the reason is because its like an advert... in fact its not like an advert, it is an advert. There's his product floating in space, just like in a cgi advert... theres the cool association-making (with Hitch-hikers), just like in an advert...there's the appropriation of a once counter-cultural bit of music providing a soundtrack to his product, just like in an advert... when he's not sweating his employees and suppressing trade unions he is ultimately in the business of flogging cars, and he's generated an incredible amount of awareness in them around the world thanks to this viral stunt advert.I think the view of the earth and the view of space as seen from the car is fantastic. The image is completely surreal....and whimsical and fascinating because it's not over the top science with a capital S. It's science as fun.
Slight problem: you haven't been able to buy said car since 2012.I've been thinking today what has disgusted me about the car thing...maybe im just a grumpy git, but i think there is a reason why...and I think the reason is because its like an advert... in fact its not like an advert, it is an advert. You can't even recognise how that awesome double landing alone could inspire a whole new generation of scientists who could go on to do amazing things in the future?
Did you watch the boosters landing too?Just watched the launch - gave me tingles it’s a feat of engineering for sure.
Whole thing is only 9mins are you suggesting ADHD?Did you watch the boosters landing too?

Well it’s Magnus after all.Whole thing is only 9mins are you suggesting ADHD?
I reckon just one of those boosters costs more than it would to find homes for all the stray kittens and puppies in the world, ever.Yep, no denying how clever it is.
I think Mars missions are beyond stupid, and moon missions, long ago done and dusted are now also redundant, but Im not against space science. And I like the international nature of the space station - this idea that we may be fucking the earth up royally, but in space there's some attempt amongst many scientists to rise above the way states play out their shitty politics and raise science above those politics. But with the way Musk has gone about this it seems to shit on all of that. What I see is Musks ego, Musks products, Musks share price.

I know this isnt the exact same thing but when humans sent this off into space I could get behind that sentiment:
Theres a sense of respect and reverence for space which goes along with that.

They'd have a bit of trouble hitting the place.Have thought for a long time if a 'rogue ' state wanted to make a statement ISS would be target of choice.
Musk's eleven successful re-supply missions to the ISS?
Edit: This is a quote of a ska invita post, but it's attributed to 8ball. How'd that happen - I just hit reply on ska's post?

Confused for a bit there. Some of it is a bit like my writing style but not something I’d say - was wondering if I’d had a few too many and forgot about my enthusiasm for space shizz.
Can't be done. A LOT MORE COULD AND AND SHOULD BE DONE, but you can't end it.. Somepeople don't want to be inside and others it ain't safe for other people if they areProbably costs more than it would to end rough sleeping in the UK.
