Live! Falcon Heavy, world's most powerful rocket, maiden flight

?? You think Musk isn't paying his fair share of UK tax? US tax point of view he's just shown up massive government inefficency

I was semi-joking but seeing as you’re wanting to argue:

You don’t see it as at all obscene to launch a car into fucking space whilst people are eating out of bins?

Some livid folks on the Flat Earth forums at the moment...

Statement by The Flat Earth Society:

Perhaps unsurprisingly, we've received many questions about the recent SpaceX launch, and the resultant "live stream" of a pretty red car floating about in space.

It certainly is interesting to see the shift of focus in space programs from official government organisations to privately-run organisations. Whether or not that's a good thing will, of course, vary with your political views, but the ultimate outcome isn't much different. After all, corporations are driven by profit, not the pursuit of knowledge or truth.

What is surprising, however, is the new generation of people shouting "It's true, I saw it on TV!" Except this time, it's the Internet. We have already witnessed the shortfalls of this blind belief in online materials; just consider recent US elections, the political Facebook campaigns in the UK, or the many fake-news sites run from countries like Macedonia.

I would like to appeal to everyone, Round Earther and Flat Earther alike, to exercise more caution when approaching online content. Exercise critical thinking. Seeing something on the Internet does not automatically render it true. Even Steve Wozniak has remarked that ‘[he doesn't] believe anything [Musk] says’. Make of that what you will.

Then again, it was a good car ad.

Silly cunts.

This is such an odd argument. Space exploration and science is a positive thing. If you had said, you think its OK to pay a footballer £30000000 whatever the fuck it is a week while people eat from bins, or trident, or war, but no, you isolate a positive thing for this argument you are making. And its a good argument, people shouldnt be eating out of bins, but in a choice of premiership footballers, global banking systems, the war machine etc etc, you pick a positive use of money and it holds no substance imo

So what is the point? So the wealthy can eventually colonise space?
It won't be the wealthy. It'll be like Australia.

In terms of the obscene bit of your last post... He's not the messiah but he similtaniously nudging global energy policies in the right direction... He can't do fucking everything

No more obscene than you tapping away at your expensive computer/phone in the warm and enjoying tasty food whenever you fancy it while so many people starve/freeze/live without security etc etc.

It's a total non starter of an argument anyway. If there was never another space flight ever in the history of humankind, there's be just as much starvation/inequality etc.

If only I had £100M to throw at something. That’s hardly comparable with what you’re saying unless you’re arguing that homelessness is a result of me being warm and having a phone.

But you understand that if this whole space program was halted in its tracks it wouldn't make a fucking tot of difference to the existing inequalities in this world? (and that's not even going into the argument about how technological advances - even ones whose benefits weren't apparent at the start - have helped enrich the lives of literally billions of people)

I’m fairly certain space could still be explored without the need to be thankful to wealthy private interests doing it for us.

Who said anyone should be "thankful"?

But what's your alternative? Public funding so it would actually be more likely to impact on funding elsewhere?
