Lib-Lab Coalition

Good, it will make the fact that most of the Labour PLP are crypto-Tories even more obvious.

OTOH, Wintour is championing the Progress story, as delivered by YouGov, that Labour will be unelectable unless Adonis and Sainsbury's will be done, so he's not going off-piste too badly.

Lib dem brand is fucking toxic, especially after their Tory pact. About as much chance of a lib lab coalition as there is of a lab ukip one. They are destined to become an increasing irrelevance, not an ever present game changing force.

It's a plausible scenario; they'll certainly get some MPs and the outcome of the next election isn't obvious. There might also be an incentive to get them onside for votes affecting English issues only, to avoid West Lothian whinging.

If there's even a grain of truth in this report, it's more likely that the LDs are flying a kite as part of their 'differentiate and diverge' strategy.

Hopefully Labour will be able to govern without them.

If they manage to get a majority. Plenty of pitfalls ahead.

Not entirely clear what would happen if Labour is largest party but without a majority

It depends on whether the majority is achievable with a few nationalists and the member for Brighton Pier or whether it would take a reasonable sized rump of Cableite LDs, doesn't it?

Politicians want power. In countries which always have no majority party elected the post election horse trading & discussions in locked rooms are the norm. The is no reason why it should not become normal in the UK. Any UK political party would be foolish to rule anything out.

yes, I guess so - but the Scots wouldn't want to be too dependent on SNP votes, so (as long as Clegg is gone) I don't see the idea of a coalition being automatically ruled out in those circumstances (not saying I'd support it necessarily, but that it wouldn't be unthinkable)

Why wouldn't either of them do it if it were the only way to form a viable government? Deep seated principle? Ha-ha. Both of them (Labour and LibDem) would do it in a fucking heartbeat if it meant being in power.

Yeah, but its not going to happen, is it? Look at the frickin polls. Labour are going to get in, and any association with the mercenary lds would tarnish them with the brush of "we will do anything to get into government" (never mind that its true, its about perception...).

Of course they would, but that's not how it's going to pan out - no matter how hard Wintour and the SDP-stay-behinds want it to. Lost deposit after lost deposit tells its own story.
