In reports circulating throughout the media forums, you might have heard about Keith Schembri offering his resignation from the OPM. However, the aforementioned public figure has come out in the open and delivered his official side of the story. Muscat’s Chief of Staff approached the Prime Minister and offered to step aside from his current status in attempts to draw attention from the government and to fully concentrate on counter-acting against the allegations and remarks that have been stated against over the course of the past few months. Prime Minister Muscat reportedly declined his offering and instead offered a warm gesture of assistance and togetherness, given the times of controversy that have already surfaced and taken aim at the Maltese government’s sovereign stature.
The Malta Independent has allegedly revealed details of Keith Schembri's email to the Prime Minister that supposedly contains damning remarks regarding various news outlets currently operating in Malta. In the email, Schembri has spoken against the newspaper outlets “The Times” and “The Malta Independent”; the Chief of Staff discussed numerous reports with Muscat in order to clearly highlight the extent of their originality or fabrication. In other words, he intended to reveal all cards on the table and to finally bring the Prime Minister into the loop of things. It turns out that Schembri actually intended to set aside the difference between what was being said about him and what he actually had to say. There’s a difference, of course, a difference that only Keith Schembri can explain.
In his statement, Keith Schembri proclaimed that “Joseph Muscat isn’t just my boss – he is my best friend. And I have offered my resignation on several occasions – not because I am guilty of what our opponents say, but because I do not want to be a distraction from the incredible job he is doing. He has always urged me to stay, that what we are doing for the country is important.” He later added that various factions amongst the system targeted his status in the government for all the financial dealings that he conducted over the past decade. He simply stated that he will not blame his doubters, who can’t seem to believe that he achieved financial security many years back. His family had attained success by working hard, and he vows to clear his name for whatever the opposition accuses him of.
