Just watched the new Tron Legacy in 3D

Do you think people will be confused when they notice that the scenes in the real world aren't in 3D? I can see some people walking out and complaining to cinema staff about it.

It mentions at the beginning that not all scenes are in 3D but to leave your glasses on. So, doubt it.

I'm trying to think of the last time he was actually any good in anything... :hmm:

He won an Oscar last year for Crazy Heart and he's even better in this years new one by the Coen Brothers, True Grit.

Also The Door in the Floor, Tideland and he was actually very good in Iron Man.

When is Jeff Bridges ever bad ? :confused:

One to many Star Wars nods, great visuals, very cool soundtrack but it felt more like a long epilogue to the first film than one in it's own right. The beginning and end seemed to be the only parts that attempted emotion.

Wonder what they'll do with number three?

Fair enough, I've not seen those, but it was a genuine query not an allegation against his ability. :)

When is he bad? Men Who Stare at Goats, for one.

The effects much cop, then, on an IMAX screen?

Well, I saw it last night at the IMAX. The 3D didn't feel as dramatic as it did in Avatar, but that might have been because the stupidly huge size of the IMAX screen kind of drowns out any other visual effects (unless they're as aggressive as one of the plugs for the 3D tech that was on beforehand, which was sending all sorts of words straight into your face and made me wave my hands in front of me and say "whuh! get away!")

Good bits:
* lightcycles - that's a good scene
* soundtrack
* Jeff Bridges does give it some, within the constraints of the...

Shit bits:
* Characters very dull and clichéd. Particularly protagonist who is also made of rubber. At least the programs have the excuse that they're supposed to be programs.
* Too much nicked from other sci-fi films, not in "homage" mode but "unimaginative" mode.
* Some action sequences fall into the trap - which isn't unique to 3D films, but 3D makes it worse - of having lots of quite close fast-moving shots of blurry fast-moving spiralling objects, occasionally exploding or hitting stuff, where you can't tell what the fuck is going on and after a while you just shut down and wait until things stop moving. Just because you _can_ do this with CGI doesn't mean you _should_.
* Tron character _criminally_ underused and not explored at all.
* Hero has crap dog.

Meh:
* Bit long, for no good reason.
* Discs not used as well as they could have been, though not too bad.
* Some nice scenery but cityscapes could have been more dramatic - the real world ones are actually more impressive.

I saw it last night, at the IMAX.

It passed the time and it was kind of enjoyable but I was generally underwhelmed. It's even cheesier than Avatar (which is the only other thing I've seen in 3D). The script is pretty awful. The aesthetic I didn't find very imaginative.

I don't think it really qualifies as sci-fi. There isn't really anything to stimulate any brain cells, other than annoying them.

One of the main reasons I went was for the Daft Punk soundtrack. But while bits were sort of recognisable as such, mostly I thought it was a fairly conventional film soundtrack, nothing really special.

Leaving the cinema and walking along the south bank at 2am with the Thames mirror calm, no people in sight, and the silhouettte of the houses of parliament looming in the mist with all the floodlighting turned off, was arguably a more engaging visual experience than anything in the film.

So, that's what I thought of Tron Legacy anyway.

Fridge is spot on about Tron, why they didn't make it partly about his redemption and then being left to run the grid after Flynn and C.L.U. went I don't know...

saw it at IMAX in Cardiff, wasn't expecting much and thought it was fucking awesome :D well, in special effects and visual aesthetic anyway... not much else going on right enough, especially in terms of plot, but who cares - it was TRON in 3D. kept me happy....

If you can limit your expectations to a rich neon aesthetic with a good soundtrack and healthy portions of ham and cheese, you'll have a great time :)

I found this the other day. The review gives it an almost perfect score just because of the computer effects (all 15 minutes of them).
Kids film with a daft plot.

"the plot gets a bit lost but anything more would have been a waste of time. The visuals carry the film 9 out of 10"
Wowzers.

i wanted to like this so badly.

where was the script? usually action sequences hide this fact, but there wasn't enough of it and some of the preable to it was terrible.
i can't put into words how disappointed i was with this.

disney really dropped the ball on this.
