Just watched the new Tron Legacy in 3D

I read all about you and your private Sharlene Spiteri concert, both before and after the actual concert. I quite enjoyed hearing all about it. Because I'm a nice person who likes watching other people live happy lives.
i only posted cos i wanted someone to go with. so lonely.

It looks awful. The original, while having an unbelievably lame plot, at last looked like the future because computers were all new and sexy then. This looks just like all the other gee whizz post-Matrix crap out there. Actually it reminds me of the godawful Speed Racer movie.

Mind, can't ever have enough films aimed at adolescent boys and those who emotionally and culturally are forever stuck in that state. :(

I went to two Q&A's last weeks by the makers of Black Swan and The Kids are Alright. Both talked about how it was almost impossible to get the funding for these films because studios will not support films for adults anymore. American cinema has reached an all time low point.

You mean "they won't support mundane films about mundane things that the scriptwriter had a wank over", which is good.

As to Tron I can't wait, out on Boxing Day.

To my eyes this looks and sounds phenomenal, and I like "films for adults" films as much as the next guy. Except for The Fountain, that was shit.

This does look shite. What Reno said basically.

More pretty boy goes into the matrix for CGI hijinks based on one of the lamest stories in movie history (tron - where a man is digitally taken apart by a Commodore 64 and fights an MCU on laser bikes).
I liked Tron, but that was because I was 10 or something and it truly was groundbreaking. It is shite though. Plus interestingly there are less than 15 minutes of any sort of CGI in it.

No amount of CGI and 3D goonery is going to make any of these films 'good'.

My opinion seems not to have changed at all in the six months between the start of this thread and now. The idea of more 80s nostalgia movies aimed at the thirty-something geek demographic still brings me out in hives.

The soundtrack might be good mind.

What?

My entire understanding of you has just crumbled.

some of us are past that point........

Despite all I've said, I'm going to see it at the IMAX next week - free ticket, and IMAX, it could be just ninety minutes of whooshy neon and it would be better than sitting at home banning people.

i heard it's nowt special. looking forward to it anyway, it's not like the original was some piece of high cinema, so i'm not exactly expecting it to be a masterpiece.

I'm seeing it on 2nd Jan at the IMAX cos it's a mate's bday 'thing'. I am looking forward to:

Whizzy 3D CGI
Jeff Bridges
Bruce Boxleitner
Whizzy 3D CGI

Also, for all it's multifarious faults, I actually quite enjoyed Speed Racer's aesthetic, while not enjoying the attempts to make anime comedy characters (the younger brother and pet) into live action sequences.

I'm esp looking forward to Bruce B with a beard. He looks totally filled with gravitas now he's getting on a bit.
