Is it wrong to eat animals that are clever?

artificial intelligence. Something smart enough to track the ebb and flow of production and need and allocate accordingly. on a world scale. A system as complex and ever shifting as weather and no computer can map that accuretly yet either. But has to be a communist AI otherwise we get 'pragmatic' decisions about 600 here starving to save 1500 there.

Fully Automated Luxury Communism Now!

"The machine stops"

One would expect a fair amount of resilience from the get-go. The idea is Fully Automated Luxury Communism, not Fully Automated Shoe-string Communism. So if the machine stopped it would be because of the asteroid impact or summik... which would be fair enough.

As far as the OP is concerned... I refuse to eat anything that has tentacles anyway, but octopuses and their associates are far to cool to munch on in my humble opinion. Their day will come.

No, didn't realize "The machine stops" was the name of a book, will have to look into that.

good call.

Fully Automated Luxury Communism wouldn't be like that though, Fully Automated Luxury Communism would come with a manual, and would be open source and with a vibrant community.:)

The Machine Stops is more like Fully Automated Luxury iCapitalism.

Fascinating creatures...

“Meeting an octopus,” writes Godfrey-Smith, “is like meeting an intelligent alien.” Their intelligence sometimes even involves changing colors and shapes. One video online shows a mimic octopus alternately morphing into a flatfish, several sea snakes, and a lionfish by changing color, altering the texture of its skin, and shifting the position of its body. Another video shows an octopus materializing from a clump of algae. Its skin exactly matches the algae from which it seems to bloom — until it swims away.

Wish I could have a pet one, but it would escape... and probably go eat the neighbors fish. Besides creatures like these shouldn't be caged... well, tanked.
