In the park and stuff its fine but it's bad enough when kids come scooting /cycling/skating down a pavement full of people, adults should know better.

They're most likely the ones similar to this.

Cro-moly scooters for doing tricks rather than the folding aluminium ones that were popular. The cheapest full builds are about £70 and parts are replacable so kids like to spend their pocket money on shiny new stuff for them, wheels, forks, bars etc. Skateparks are full of what my mate called 'germs' riding them. My other mate's made a mint selling them and the parts.

So I take it these stand up to trick s a bit better than the ally ones? I've seen some nasty accidents off those ally ones, try and do a trick and they just crumple.

If so I would class then as essentially a skate board with training wheels, not really suitable for adults. It will just be a fad anyway, like those trainers with wheels. *shrug*

I'd have no objection to them in the park, but adult-sized and speed scooter users on pavements are no more welcome than cyclists. It feels very intimidating and unsafe to be Zoomed around and overtaken by an adult on a scooter.

I've been considering getting one. I now often walk into the West End, which is a brisk 50 minute walk. I'm sure I could cut it down by 20 mins with a scooter. I don't give a fuck what's cool or uncool or age appropriate or if some mockney twat rides one. I've gotten nervous about cycling over the last few years, but public transport is getting so expensive, I can't afford an Oyster card when I'm not working.

When I lived in the States I had a scooter with an diesel engine. Scariest thing ever, especially in American traffic. Sold it again within a month.

It at least halves my journey time when I use my daughters, and hers is a £25 childs scooter.

i think they must feel the same about the cars!

wee need a three tier system!

I never knew this!!
Yes what looks like a rear mudguard is on a spring and doubles as the brake so you just put your free foot on it so it presses on the tyre and bring the scooter to a halt.

AS, thanks for spelling 'brakes' correctly.

Thats about right yeah,

Retro rollerskates are all the rage in my area. Kids have been known to use them to hold onto the back of the bus and get towed up hill. Then they zoom downhill on the skates at speed. Repeat til mum says bedtime.

More on topic, I had 2 scooters, but my mam threw them away after I moved out and didnt take them with me :(

I have a vintage Lambretta, but having vaguely skimmed through the thread, that would seem to be off topic :hmm:

(If anyone desperately wants a vintage 1969 imported 100% Innocenti Lambretta DL/GP 125 with original paintwork (Turquoise with black decals, turquoise was as far as I know never used on GPs for the UK market), badges, and Italian decals (ink splot rather than the GP checquered flag that was used in the UK), as it was right off the assembly line (and Italian reg plates, although you can't use them on the road here, vehicle is fully registered here as a 1969 vehicle however and allowed to display vintage black/tin UK reg plate), and is willing to part with £4k in exchange for a pristine vintage museum piece/show-condition Lamby in full running order, PM me - I have a feeling though that I am in the wrong thread, this seems to be about kids toys) :hmm: Selling for genuine reason - arthritic hands make changing gear a bit tricky, it needs a good home :(

Much better than Vespa, for 1 they have a real frame unlike the sheet metal lump of shite, like a real motor bike. I'm skint so cant buy it but I would love to. Got any pics?

:)

Edit to add: older photo but still in as good nick now as it was then, I've looked after it.

Wow, it looks mint. Amazing for a 43 year old.

It is mint - that's why I want £4k for it, it's a rare original in top condition, not that many survived the '70s phase of cutting them down and stripping them and inventive respraying. And yeah I am around the same age and wish I looked so good and had as little wear and tear :D

Damn. I sold my LI150 for 40 quid in 1987. :(

If it's any consolation, these things aren't exactly selling like hot cakes right now in the midst of a recession, I should have made a proper effort to sell it a couple of years ago - as it is I'll just have to hold out until people are in a financial position to be a bit more frivolous than they are right now!
