My son has one of those electric scooters, the breaks were a bit naff. It's a break drum setup and the main cable connector at the drum end was only fastened by one bolt centrally, over time it moved and the brakes became ineffective. I drilled an additional hole in the cable bracket and added a self tapping screw so it no longer moves. When fully charged it flies, he wears his skateboarding protective gear when he rides it and I'm for ever barking orders at him when he is on it. SLOW DOWN! STOP! WAIT FOR ME!

Which model razor is that? Even an e300 probably isn't really enough for an adult.

Proper adult scooters are more solidly built, with better brakes, bigger tyres and a stronger motor. A razor might suit lil fraction though...

The top of the range scooter in that form is called a go-ped. They're extortionately priced.

I fear for the generation of children growing up with one leg bigger than the other. When they're seperated from their scooters they'll all be clumping around in circles

I wonder what they do to your shoes as well though? Surely one must wear down a lot more quickly than the other. Alos, do you get bigger muscles on one leg from the pumping?

I think I may have to have a go on my nieces!

A, your shoe taps lightly on the ground, you are not exactly dragging it along.
B, you alternate your leg. All the kids do.

I'm not sure as I'm at work, it really isn't strong enough for an adult. the frame is a pressed sheet metal affair and is only suitable for kids up to the age of 14 I think. I always check the breaks and for any signs of metal fatigue when he goes out on it. I wouldn't let him on it without supervision.

I had a Raleigh Scooter when I was a kid which used to go like the clappers - however I'd look a bit daft riding one at my age and height (6'2")

In terms of looking a bit silly, it's not as bad as men in their 30s* still riding skateboards.

(*Doubly daft if they're also wearing shorts and cap the wrong way round as one bloke in Headingley was doing a couple of days ago)

what gives with the collecting rubber bands, is it a ruse to make them slow down to scour the pavement looking for them, they're probably taking someone's job y'know
One of the kids I saw the other day had them all the way up to the handles!

So they are self propelled and need no human effort to move forward? scientific breakthrough in transport!!:D
Do they?

Can you read?
The sole of the foot taps lightly on the ground (obviously when pushing along every so often, so you are not grinding the bottom of your sole away or dragging your foot) and you alternate feet. Less ware than walking.

The other kids do it. All kids do, It's universal.

My 7 yr old has a pink & chrome scooter and I love having a go outside in the street but they're too small to ride seriously if you're bigger than about 4 feet tall surely? I'm only 5' 5" and I get a bad back stooping over the bars for even just 10 minutes.

I've been considering getting one. I now often walk into the West End, which is a brisk 50 minute walk. I'm sure I could cut it down by 20 mins with a scooter. I don't give a fuck what's cool or uncool or age appropriate or if some mockney twat rides one. I've gotten nervous about cycling over the last few years, but public transport is getting so expensive, I can't afford an Oyster card when I'm not working.

When I lived in the States I had a scooter with an diesel engine. Scariest thing ever, especially in American traffic. Sold it again within a month.

people should do it for saving money or whatever but they should also do it if it's fun no matter how old they are. you're a long time dead so enjoy yourself. I'm 43 and if I wasn't so fat now I'd still skateboard cos its just such a fun thing to do. If other people have a problem with it then that says more about their own insecurities to me - worried about looking 'cool' or 'silly'. fuck that, do what you like I say!

lets argue about kids scooters and shoewear, wear, I need references to relevant studies or you are just wrong:D

Is there fuck all that urbanites will not disagree about with strangers on the internet :D

Honestly, I'm not sure I could come up with a non disputable subject without some smart arse telling me they know more about it than me while pointing out I'm a barely literate cunt:D

It was a vaguely flippant post on a thread about whether adults should use scooters:facepalm: GET A GRIP:D

I would have thought braking would wear shoes quite quickly?
