I just think grown men on little scooters look stupid. Not for me but OK for a teenager I suppose.

How precious!

One of the most longstanding riders I know is a near-50 year old woman and she's been using her K2s very effectively for years (before and since the aforementioned prosecution). Reckons she's saved thousands and a lot of time sitting in traffic because of it.

So enough of you stereotypes please - All it does is show-up what sort of prick you are!

I do think adults, especially men, riding them look amusing but it doesn't bother me.

I, however, wouldn't use one as frankly I would probably just fall over!

You're like the urban guru of bad cliche's.

So I'm a prick for stating the fact that adults on scooters look idiots am I? I'll admit to the stereotype that if you are a man and you ride a robust child's scooter to work you'll look like a plum. It's a statement of fact not a stereotype.

Gratuitous photo of my kid on his mgp :D

The first reference I got when I Googled for adult scooter riding was a typically petty bit of car-centric cynical nastiness in the Hate about Jamie Oliver :-

Someone should do a commute various ways and do the sums.
People have found various contraptions worthwhile over the years - these were the preserve of the wealthiest in the land :-

For myself I get frustrated if I can't pedal, but I've had mechanical failures on my bikes and been glad to freewheel downhill in-between pushing.

Two wheels allows a fat 52 year old like myself to ride over 50 miles in a day for fun. I can't get enough of it. No way could I walk that distance.

A sunny day, so I can't stop here gossiping.

i don't think they look like idiots. They raise a smile though. But not as big of a smile as the rider has.
Ultimate easy transport for the summer though - roll fast down hill, walk up hill. They weigh nothing and will fold up and fit in your drawer

My daughter goes to school on a little pink scooter. When I have been late picking her up or I have to rush from school I have hopped on. It's quite a wizzy little ride and small enough to carry around. Most convenient. I have considered getting one of my own.
Does it really matter what other people think you look like? It's certainly not harming anyone.

it matters a little bit.

It matters not a jot. Other people may think it looks daft or childish but that doesn't affect me. Anyone that thinks that just because someone rides a scooter they become so laughable that they cannot be associated with, would be such a twat anyway that you wouldn't want to know them.

I wouldn't say it was 'fun', for me it is just a very practical and speedy way of getting around. It's like sprinting everywhere.

Several people's opinions does not make a thing a statement of fact, what bollocks!! :D I have one of those metal foldy scooters but I wouldn't go far on it, mainly because you'd rattle yourself to bits on it where I live. If I lived in a town or city I might use it more.

Loads of people look like plums for various reasons imo, doesn't make it fact!

I wonder what they do to your shoes as well though? Surely one must wear down a lot more quickly than the other. Alos, do you get bigger muscles on one leg from the pumping?

I think I may have to have a go on my nieces!

I'm thinking of getting a 750w electric one for the towpath.

My son has one of those electric scooters, the breaks were a bit naff. It's a break drum setup and the main cable connector at the drum end was only fastened by one bolt centrally, over time it moved and the brakes became ineffective. I drilled an additional hole in the cable bracket and added a self tapping screw so it no longer moves. When fully charged it flies, he wears his skateboarding protective gear when he rides it and I'm for ever barking orders at him when he is on it. SLOW DOWN! STOP! WAIT FOR ME!
