Is America burning? (Black Lives Matter protests, civil unrest and riots 2020)

Got no words, how can you possibly make any comment on something so incredible? Just been dipping into the 92 LA riots and it seemed from the beginning of the situation there that the authorities were either unable to make a decision as to what to do and as such were incapacitated. Or, knowing that national news networks were covering the violence of ethnic ‘minorities’ (South Central being predominantly African-American and Koreatown just next to it)they allowed it to escalate for other reasons.

Sadly, it gets worse

The headline is "Christian Site Raises Over $97K for Kenosha Shooting Suspect Kyle Rittenhouse After Other Crowdfunds Taken Down"

Bet he will become the latest poster child standing up for American rights.

I'm starting to feel sick.

Ive had to stop reading about it, I cannot deal with the avalanche of... how do we describe it? Ain’t no fucking words.

I feel physically sick just reading that

Of course he will, and he has to - otherwise the people who fooled him into going there (and whose language is repeated throughout the comments on that crowdfunding site) might be at a tiny risk of being held accountable. Of course they'll no doubt be planning to monetize this for themselves.

RW posters on social media are now claiming one Rittenhouse victim (Rosenberg) has a child sex offense against his name and the other (Huber) had violence convictions - not seen any convincing evidence of this, but 'Say your opponent is a nonce' is certainly a popular tactic of the right. And even if true, it still doesn't entitle anyone to murder them - it sounds like they were trying to grab his gun, but neither was armed. Don't know if that counts as self-defence? I guess he could say he feared being killed if disarmed?

Ah, and he was the suspected sex offender KennyG heard about. I hope he's still prosecuted for that crime if there's enough evidence - that woman should get justice, still. Seems unlikely that will happen - the trial would be ridiculous, with some people certain he was guilty and others certain it was a fit-up - so that's another fall-out from this shooting. :(

It wasn't one of the men the teenager shot, like KennyG thought (and he definitely was not talking about Jacob Blake), but I bet that rumour's gone all round the world by now.

If you are going to mention me at least have the decency to link so I know you have done so. Rosenbum was a convicted sex offender who served 10 years. All participants have criminal records, including the idiot who was holding the AR15. Having said that, in the US, the way the justice system works is such that defendants are often faced with insanely long sentences and end up pleading to reduce to something manageable even if they have a halfway decent defence. Rosenbum was about 18 at the time of the offence and the victim was around 15. Whatever way you look at it, Rosenbum was an ex long term convict facing (well actually running behind) a 17 year old kid. The tragedy is that two obviously damaged individuals ended up destroying each others lives when in a saner world they would have found more in common than what kept them apart.

The ludicrous insinuations earlier in the thread towards my own motivations have been noted.

Why would I need to link? Writing your name usually sends out a notification automatically.

You're acting as if the victims are equally as responsible as the boy who went armed and shot two people, so actually it is starting to look like you have an agenda. Originally I stated that I thought you probably weren't trying to blame the victims (and I meant it), but I guess I was wrong.

I haven't made any snide insinuations, so please stop snidely insinuating that I have. I've stated outright that it now looks like you're trying to blame the victims. Why, I don't know.
You stated it is starting to look like I have an agenda. Tell me what agenda it looks like I have.

was there sound? were there crocs? what was happening?

three questions that come to mind :)

but yes wtf covers it

I'd have thought what Huber appeared to be trying to do would be self-defence in almost every jurisdiction in the entire world.

Remember those Atlanta college kids who back in June were attacked in their car by a mob of cops, beaten and tased, and had their tyres slashed?

Or the various protesters, news crews and local residents in Minneapolis whose vehicles were similarly vandalised?

Well, it's Still A Thing, particularly in Portland.
