Is America burning? (Black Lives Matter protests, civil unrest and riots 2020)

Huge amount of money for BLM groups. $150 million in grants to groups plus $70 million funding elsewhere.

I love it just for the knowledge that all those Soros is funding BLM and antifa people are going to explode. Guess we'll see how they like it when those groups are getting significant funding.

George Soros' foundation to invest $220 million in racial justice efforts

I'm not sure that Black Voters Matter or the Circle for Justice Innovations have much to do with the BLM movement on the streets. There's no mention of antifa in that article at all. Accepting funding from a billionaire should be the kiss of death for any movement seriously interested in radical social and political change. As it should be for any endorsement from those heavily invested in the status quo.

Well apart from a bizarre tweet by some BLM leader. Most of it is not tolerating intolerance. Like thinking all lives matter is rascist.
I don't think anyone is seriously suggesting that "all lives matter" is, in itself, an inherently racist statement.

But using it to counter the "Black lives matter" slogan is, at the very least, to deny the level of discrimination and oppression that black people experience in contrast to white people in the same communities...and that is a thing that racists do as a matter of course.

Should have said some of those groups.

If organisations like Circle for Justice Innovation are receiving funding the money is going to reach grassroots groups. I really don't see how having that much funding available can do anything but good.

Do you even know what they're really like? Because I'd never heard of them until today. They don't even have a Wikipedia page that I can find. Why is this particular organisation being boosted by a billionaire? Dodge as fuck.

No I'd never heard of them but they seem legit, basically fundraising and making grants. Staff seem decent longtime activists and the organisation has been around for 20 years

Black votes matter also look to be a good choice. Visiting communities to look at their specific issues on voter turnout and helping solve them, in part with funding.

There's $150 million in grants over 5 years, plus $70 million other funding. That's going to support a lot of organisations. They're not going to list every prospective grant recipient but if the groups mentioned are representative the money will have a big impact.

It's a good job organisations dependend on billionaires for funding haven't ever been known to avoid activities that could threaten the interests of billionaires in order to keep the funds flowing. If that had happened or was even a possibility then it would be possible to see how it could do anything but good.

It's a good job that hasn't ever happened and couldn't ever happen really.

What activities might they avoid in this instance?

ETA. They're going to be five year grants.

He was very good to me, I can tell you that much.

I think $200 million has the possibility to do a lot of good.

Be good to see BLM not lose their momentum tho also good if they got involved with the unions or set there own up as from what I’ve read about unions on here - they seem to be a waste of space.

Please explain why you are bringing this up and the supposed significance of his nationality (which you are apparently unable to look up yourself).

Related to my last post and unions tbh. BLM are active over here but obviously not as much as in America so not sure how the funding will be spread. Be great to see BLM involved with unions as they have the momentum for change with them right now.

We're well used to right-wing billionaires doing it.

Soros has a 50 year history of donating to anti racist organisations, supported gay marriage, refugee rights. He's certainly using his wealth / power to further causes he favours but I don't see any evidence that he's subverting the activities of any organisations funded.

He doesn't need to. He just funds the orgs that are already aligned with his interests. What do you imagine his interests are as a billionaire?
