Is America burning? (Black Lives Matter protests, civil unrest and riots 2020)

Whilst I think the rise of 'cancel culture' is pretty unhelpful, it does make me laugh that its people with platforms - journo's, rent-a-gob commentators, bestselling authors, politicians, academics, etc. with cultural capital and mates in the press/media, that can't cope with any criticism or call out from those that might have found a voice (we've seen it with 3 years of constant anti-trans sentiment, and now it's looking like BLMs turn), that they immediately get on the defensive about intolerance/silencing/freedom of speech with a load of their mates. So fucking tedious.

"I am silenced says celebrity and Nazi pug trainer who keeps getting a slot on the news channels and recently signed a book deal"

Meh, edit my ramblings of no real consequence in this day and age and which I no longer understand what society seem to hold important...

This is how fucked up America's police are:

Out of nowhere, a male prison guard leapt at me from behind, yanked hard on the collar of my jacket, pulling it with sufficient force into my throat to make me gasp. He then manhandled me into the cell. I made a note of the man’s name, along with several officers who witnessed what he did.

A 53-year-old protester, Gina Hicks, saw what happened. “There was no attempt to have a conversation with you,” she later told me. “He just yanked you down and threw you back in the cell.”

Hey new poster @bunners72, the thread you want is here:

On a related note, here's a Brit shithead embarrassing himself and getting an almighty slapdown. He's off to 'reflect' on his actions.

Oh look. He has previous.

The Silicon Valley tech CEO caught in a racist rant against an Asian family on Saturday was charged with domestic assault and vandalism in 2016, DailyMail.com can reveal.

Michael Lofthouse, 37, was filmed gesturing at Jordan Chan and her family in a Carmel Valley restaurant and saying 'Trump is gonna f**k you', 'you f***ers need to leave' and 'you f***ing Asian piece of s**t' before a server kicked him out.

Lofthouse, the British-born CEO of Silicon Valley IT startup Solid8, doubled down on the racist abuse in social media messages after the incident, writing 'Leave our planet. Asian f**k. Come near me or my people and u r f***ing dead. Do not start. U f***ing piece of s**t.'

Could you put the actual quotes in a spoiler tag, please editor? It's really upsetting to read racist abuse and I'd rather have (more of) a choice about whether or not to do so.

What an absolute piece of shit. Loaded with hate verbally attacking a family celebrating a birthday. I really don’t understand people like him.

American society seems broken atm, is it really that bad or just the impression I get from the media?

Depends on who your talk to. Face to face, Americans I talk to are very concerned about the Trump administration and the situation that he is encouraging. They are mostly young and well informed. Online, well, that's a different story...

I think about 1/3 of the population is broken. There's a huge divide between the economic prospects of citizens based on their zip code. Some zip codes have seen generations of poverty and/or a loss of income potential for large swaths of the (mostly rural) population. Those people have been grasping at straws for decades and have found a temporary one in hate, religion, and Trump. Rather than hating them back, I think the answer is to focus investment into those zip codes, making sure that everyone, regardless of color or income, can have equal access to education, public services, healthcare, and livable wages.

You could not make this up:

Yes, of course he did.

...Salyers said after the shooting that he saw a someone with a gun on his hip when he looked through the peephole of his front door in Saline County on the evening of June 3. Salyers said he then drew his gun and accidentally discharged it while attempting to move the weapon from one hand to the other....

It's the rich, swindling, elitist shits I resent. They know damn well what they voted for.
