Is America burning? (Black Lives Matter protests, civil unrest and riots 2020)

They didn't say something racist but reducing BLM to an international communist conspiracy, or a lot of thugs out for violence definitely is racist . You would have to be racist to except either of those sinareos imo . But yes , it is my opinion .

And where did I say that?

IWNW is a dreary 'common sense' liberal that could do with a couple of kicks up the arse but vfromtheg is a genuine banned returner (rtfw? Four letters anyway) slinging abuse and being embarrassing. Sort it out eh?

Fuck you . If you prefer to take the side of racists . Fuck you.

I think the US death penalty only uses firing squads in limited military circumstances (I may be out of date on this).

Though Minnesota ditched capital punishment wholesale 110 years ago.
Wasn't there a bloke relatively recently who insisted on a firing squad and used some old law to support it?

Although I'm talking about a less formal version of justice.

It does ring a bell. Not sure on his stance regarding the blindfold. Does seem much more honest than the other methods. Though the military still also has the hanging option, I think.

Honestly if I had the choice between firing squad and lethal injection, I'd take the firing squad every time. Lethal injection is proper pseudomedical horror-show stuff, it contains ingredients that paralyse you while the others slowly kill you. It's designed to look not so bad from the outside while containing the brutality within the condemned. Fuck that, at least the firing squad is more honest about it.

I agree with you on the honesty point, but while lethal injections get fucked up sometimes, aside from point of principle I’d choose the injection. With my luck I’d get the Imperial Stormtrooper Marksman Academy in the firing squad and we’d be there all day.

I wasn't even talking about when the injections go wrong. They're a monstrous travesty even when everything goes "right". They literally contain ingredients to paralyse you as you slowly die. The ensuing final suffering is very much deliberate, in my opinion. They could have chosen any of a number of easily-administered substances that kill rapidly with no pain, but instead they chose a perverse brew of paralytics and heart-stopping medications, without any painkillers or anxiolytics.

I think even people who support capital punishment should be horrified with lethal injection as practiced in the US.

Oh, and the injections are administered by people who don't know what the fuck they are doing, because anyone with any actual medical training worth speaking of stays the fuck away from that line of work. They know this. Yet they do it anyway. So even the fuck-ups are part of the design as far as I'm concerned.

Derek Chauvin trial just got underway. Surprised no thread about it tbh.

The prosecution opening statement was good. Defense now going all out to discredit Floyd from the outset citing drug use etc.

“Conservatism” is no Longer Enough
03.24.2021. The American Mind (Claremont Institute)
All hands on deck as we enter the counter-revolutionary moment.
Let’s be blunt. The United States has become two nations occupying the same country. When pressed, or in private, many would now agree. Fewer are willing to take the next step and accept that most people living in the United States today—certainly more than half—are not Americans in any meaningful sense of the term.

I don’t just mean the millions of illegal immigrants. Obviously, those foreigners who have bypassed the regular process for entering our country, and probably will never assimilate to our language and culture, are—politically as well as legally—aliens. I’m really referring to the many native-born people—some of whose families have been here since the Mayflower—who may technically be citizens of the United States but are no longer (if they ever were) Americans. They do not believe in, live by, or even like the principles, traditions, and ideals that until recently defined America as a nation and as a people. It is not obvious what we should call these citizen-aliens, these non-American Americans; but they are something else.

What about those who do consider themselves Americans? By and large, I am referring to the 75 million people who voted in the last election against the senile figurehead of a party that stands for mob violence, ruthless censorship, and racial grievances, not to mention bureaucratic despotism. Regardless of Trump’s obvious flaws, preferring his re-election was not a difficult choice for these voters. In fact—leaving aside the Republican never-Trumpers and some squeamish centrists—it was not a difficult choice for either side. Both Right and Left know where they stand today… and it is not together. Not anymore.

I heard on the news that his defence are going to pursue the "he was going to die anyway whether our client leant on his neck or not" line... Did I mis-hear that? Or is that bullshit argument for real??

do we have any faith in the American justice system in regard to this case

be amazed if they get convicted
