The reason they can't get it out is not because of the soft ground and the massive weight but because of fucking crusties protesting. All those garda were just over whelmed by the sea of protesters. All thirty of them... and a woman with no pants.

This is my favourite news story of the year, a massive farce and embarrassment at Shells expense. Shame it has barely got a mention on the news :-\

ok. to move the shitty tbm they need a crane. but the crane will need to rest on the road, and as it occupies a smaller area than the tbm it will exert more pressure on the road, presumably doing it no good at all. i wonder what the attitude to this of the local farmers and landowners is, as their permission would, i suppose, need to be obtained for anything to happen on either side of the road.

This gets better, trying to piece it together from 142 letter bursts isn't that easy but AFAICT:

A Crane sent by Shell was blocked from getting on site by someone who parked their car on the bridge. Some protester then jumped in the crane and occupied it, so Shell got a cherry picker in to help with the job (?). That too has been occupied and used to block the bridge

Garda thought they'd help open the public road by giving the cherry picker a push - and in doing so they managed to push the rear tyre off the rim of the cherry picker. So the cherry picker is now stuck.

Crane has given up and turned around.

Lol, this is probably going to be there for quite a while even if they get it out. I remember a self-powered pile driver got stuck in the edge of a saltmarsh creek when they were building the M 27 in Hampshire. It took a couple of weeks and this looks as big.
