iPhone users: name your top apps!

you did ask

What everyone else said plus:
WeatherPro for decent forecasts - much needed in rainy holland
Trein - dutch version of myRaillight but much better - essential for commuters like me, I usually know what's going on before the ticket inspector does.
Stanza for book reading - you can share your own downloads on your synced machine.
Palringo for yahoo and messenger stuff - it keeps you open on the server for about a minute after you quit so you can go back without losing connection.
iNap - fantastic app if you're prone to fall asleep on the train. Will wake you up at pre-determined distance from your destination using the GPS. Lifesaver for me.
Darkroom - decent camera app - waits until you're not moving before taking a shot, using the accelerometer.
Shazam - also trying out Midomi which claims to understand whistling.
FileAid on iPhone/DiskAid on Mac - allows you to copy stuff to the phone on non-synced computers using USB.
Rolando - great game
Tetris -
Flick Fishing - great game, good with a few people
ClearTune - guitar tuning app
Jaadu VNC - pricey (20 euros) vnc app - best one out there, allows pinch zoom in of host machine and weighted scrolling of the cursor. Also supports gestures and SSH.
PacMan - same as original
Trainer 5K - I've just started running for fitness, this tells you how far and fast you've run and has training programs to improve your running.
Pin! - tells you where your nearest cashpoint is.
TV Forecast - for those who download a lot of US shows this app tells you all about them and when they're on.
Juxtaposer - sort of mini-photoshop app for blending photos - putting heads on other people etc...
Supercross - pretty well done dirt bike racing game.
FreeMemory or iStat for freeing memory without restarting. (also interesting to see all the apps that run all the time).
PocketGuitar - pretty good implementation of a guitar or bass with loads of effects and different strings.

I see Assassin's Creed (based on the DS version) has just been released...

Ah that's very clever :)

Shame about my dribbling :)
The only flaw is the fact that you can't have app volumes independent of each other, so you can't have a loud iNap and a quiet iPod. It'd be good if they add this is in 3.0.

Oh and Kid_E, there's a Keynote Remote app by Apple as well as a Powerpoint Remote from Zentropy, (Keynote is mac equivalent of Powerpoint).

I play Word Scramble a lot
I also use a very cool chomatic guitar tuner (first ever guitar tuner!!)
A little app that calculates how much data, phone calls and texts ive got left.
Sim City  is beginning to take up way to much of my time.
Remote
Facebook

TVUPlayer - hundreds of free streaming TV channels, including loads of foreign stuff and (apparently) good for the football if you know what channel it's on. I've been using it to watch NASA TV :)

you know that app that can "calculate your share of the bill when 5 people have been for a meal" they keep advertising?

Isn't that just a fucking calculator? Or your head?

It's an opportunity to wave your expensive phone around and impress your friends with your grip on cutting edge technology.

Or something.

*disclaimer: this applies to all similar apps on similar high end smartphones

Boycott the National Rail app because they're charging £4.99 for it and they stopped supplying train time data to the superior and free MyRailLite (which as a result is no longer available)

Especially pisses me off because its just so stupid.

You can get the same info for free through accessing their website with safari.

But they'll charge you for using their ap to access their free information.

Plus MyRailLite was very good.

They argue that they're not charging for the data, they're charging for the app (which is similar functionality-wise to MyRailLite I believe, although people I know who have used both preferred MyRailLite).

However I just use the Live departure board pages from the national rail website via safari, which tells me the main thing I need to know (whether my train is running on time before I bother leaving the house).

Shazam - works well and I like how it buzzes before it searches for the tune

Wunderradio - list of stations is amazing, works well on wifi but much less so on O2 network

Beatmaker - only just got this but it's an awesome music studio in your pocket. At £11 it's still cheap for what it can do - and I don't even know a fraction of it's capabilities yet.

I'd maybe forgive them that if it was a 70p ap (covering the developers cost) but the price they want is taking the P.

Especially when they didn't need to have an ap out there when someone was doing it for free.

Its clear profiteering when they have created a monopoly of the distribution of their info by denying others a licence (no doubt by requiring a fee for it at an exhorbitant rate)

They claim they're just covering development cost, which sounds contrived when most apps are less than a quid.

You'd have thought it would be in their interests to make information as widely available as possible, not to restrict it and make money off it.

What tossers. The main rail app in Holland is third party and costs around 2 quid - at least if NS cut him off he could sue them for loss of earnings (they use his app to advertise the iPhone over here). It's always in the top 3 of paid apps on the App store.

Was there a MyRail that wasn't free?

What's the name of the app that calculates your remaining time? That sounds pretty useful.

Cheers.

Its called "Optus Mobile Useage"
I would look up the name of your provider in the utilities section of the apps store. Thats how I found it for mine.
I'm in Australia though.

I downloaded Moron Test the other day, an american friend of ours came round with her new iPhone yesterday. She played it, wanted it, tried to download it, but couldn't find it.

She was searching for Moran Test. Failed at the first hurdle... :) well she is from Ohio

There are some fantastic games out there, but I would like to rant at the number of shitty clone "MMORPGs" *cough* that are spamming up the store. iMafia, the ninja one, Epic Pet Wars and so on, they're all the same; they have umpteen clones of themselves which give you extra points to spend at some extortionate price, and the reviews are all "***** omg this game is terrific add me my code is 28992103" because adding people gives them bonuses or something.

They can all fuck off quite frankly; they're bloody everywhere when I'm looking around for something decent, and having multiple versions of the exact same game (which do nothing except give you points) in the knowledge that people will comment and rate the app highly because they want to get their codes into the reviews is just a spam tactic.

I'm bloody obsessed with Flood-It. Just a simple game where you have to flood the board with colour in a certain number of steps by making all the blocks around you change colour. Sounds weird, and it's difficult to explain, but it's what I instantly turn to if I'm waiting around for a bus or whatever.
