I think I heard one this afternoon!!!! I am woefully unknowledgable about birds and their songs, other than this does seem rather too early, and it may have been a different bird’s call, but it set my teeth on edge so could it have been one?

I've become a bit obsessive about it and will shoot out of the house when I hear it in the day, trying to identified which small squeaky thing it's coming from. Yesterday the only thing nearby was a blue tit. I don't think blue tits make that kind of noise though, do they?

Shoot it. If the noise goes away...

All the tits have been at it the last couple of weeks, including the squeaky wheelbarrow great tit, and the slightly more melodic blue tit.
I love birds but usually by about late April I have had enough of the great tits that live in our road, it's a wonder they haven't been wiped out by other creatures that find their call fucking irritating

At least you're not in South Africa - gsv's aunt and uncle used to live next to a small ravine on the outskirts of Port Elizabeth (the city is now called Gqeberha), which was haunted in the mornings by an especially annoying type of ibis known as the 'har-de-har bird'

I heard one here starting up with his come and give us a shag call a couple of weeks ago and I told him "You're a bit ahead of yourself mate" but he paid no heed.
