Hey, basically i started a new job at the beginning of the year which i loved but i took a mental breakdown not long after starting due to whats going on in my life now. I suffer from anxiety and depression but i dont get medical help with it as i dont wanna be on pills or end up on the sick.
I walked out of the workplace and havent went back and they wont take me back now due to how i left without explanation.
Im really in a pickle now as im running out of money fast and i have rent to pay, my anxiety and depression is now getting worse because of the situation im in. I need to sign on asap to help me with my rent while i look for another job. Will they make an exception because of my anxiety and depression and let me sign on? What should i do? Do i have to go on medication for them to help?

To your doctor, now, get on the sick.
This.
Leaving a job voluntarily usually means 26 week wait for JSA. Docs for sick note and meds if they help, claim ESA.
And this.

You'll need expert help - at least go to the CAB, or disability rights centre. Also check the benefits and work website.

BTW check the ATOs thread here - read the first page and then skip to the end of it, if I were you. Please bear in mind that the thread is a support thread, not for banter or rougher treatment. http://www.urban75.net/forums/threads/atos-medicals-questions-answers-and-support.287181/

you may be sanctioned off jsa due to leaving job "voluntarily" but you may be entitled to a 'hardship payment" which is like jsa only less.

they tend not to tell people this and you may have to argue a bit.

housing benefit is not exclusively for people on dwp benefits. you can claim with nil income if you have been sanctioned off jsa.

i suggest get claims for both rolling asap.

housing benefit via local council.

hb may not pay anything until the benefits situation is sorted, but if you claim tomorrow, you should eventually get hb effective next monday when you do get it.

They might just accept that you left as you were not able to cope due to health and let you sign back on. It's a bit of a long shot. A few years ago they accepted my story and let me sign on straight away. I know things have got tougher but it could be worth a try if that is the route you want to go down.
