Very good. Off to see him in Nottingham in a few weeks :)

Really looking forward to it. I'm assuming it's as eclectic as his radio show, but just the more uppy stuff. I'm taking a couple of people with me who probably don't know what they're in for. I think it'll be a middle-aged hipster fest. :D

Yeah, eclectic but dance floor oriantated. Probably a good choice for people with differing musical tastes.

Middle aged iraving is good. No comment on the hipster angle :)

I heard him play to a megacrowd at Sonar and he played mostly house and he didn't really beatmatch any of it, just quick segues between one track and the next. it was alright though, but just alright. didn't really stand up against the rest of the acts

I once went to see - paid money, even - an event at which it was billed that Terry Hall, formerly of the twin parishes of The Specials and Fun Boy Three, would be DJing.

On closer examination it involved him occasionally pointing at a page in a zipcase of CDs, and then his very much younger companion sticking it in a CD player and pressing 'play' :D

If you want technical skills (even basic beat matching) and a view to building a set, with emotional cue points, he isn't going to deliver. He has a long history and involvement with music (especially Jazz) but in a 'live' context his limitations can often be cruelly exposed.

I remember going to see him at Bar Rumba a few times back in the day and he always rocked the place. I also like his 6music show. He's alright in my book, certainly seems to know his music.

Seen him a few times over the past few years normally on a Ninja tunes and Bonobo line up, he adapts very well his set to keep the flow going, he was headlining a 2nd stage at the first Outliers day event at tobacco docks and you literally couldn't get into the room it was that packed and was a good set what I heard of it a very good mix. Saw him at WHP16 with Bonobo headlining again, normally the line ups are well co-ordinated but I must admit despite Bonobo being one of my favourite artists he should have been on earlier or put George Fitzgerald on after him as his new stuff isn't hard enough for 1am after a techno set. But Peterson who was on after Bonobo really helped build the flow of the night back up again for the other artists coming on later, he really pulled some tunes out I wouldn't have associated with him. He really is excellent at reading the crowd and knowing what he needs to do in regards to selection and keeping the crowd happy.

Should be a very good night if the past few years and times I have seen him are anything to go by, I assume he is the headliner that night? Who else is on the bill out of interest?

The nights at bar Rumba were ace. That must have been 20 years ago now, but I got a chance to see him at Farr Festival last summer, and it was a cracking set. He will always draw a crowd, and and the crowd makes it as much as his eclectic selection of tunes.

It's a Melting Pot event. Only other names mentioned are Earl Zinger and Rebecca Vasmant. Never heard of either.

with emotional cue points, he isn't going to deliver

Have no idea what this means

Saw him a fair bit around the bar rumba days and he could definitely move a dancefloor - saw him recently at a festival and the music wasn't my cup of tea but I was clearly in a minority

Earl zinger was in galliano so long history with gp - never had much time for them myself

Yeah he seems to stick with those he knows well, most times I have seen him have been on the bill with Bonobo or Quantic who he has known for decades.

You'll find that it means very little after stripping away his pompousness and constant pretentious language.

Like a Dwyer understudy but without the interesting stuff.

It means that a great deal of thought can go in to constructing a great set - in terms of theme, or style, or even (most obviously) by way of key change. Cue points can be particularly situated songs / blends within a larger mix that can serve to generate a particular response, or initiate a new starting point (a change of tempo or style). Familiar tracks (according to the musical setting) can be of especial help here.

Peterson is known for his apparent eclecticism - not his technical skills - his shows are situated as being a showcase for new and emerging artists - this has kept him current and provided the basis for his longevity.

To be fair 'moving a dance-floor' isn't especially hard - but doing so in an original or imaginative way can be.

It is if you think of both meanings of the word 'move'

None of the things you are talking about are to do with technical skill they are all about programming - I remember gp as being very good at that

He was excellent on Friday, good combo of Gilles and the Sub Club. Real mix up of sounds as expected. Actually had me dancing and i don't normally dance. Took along two people who had no idea who he is and they loved it too.
