15% of the popular vote for FF in yesterday's election if you can believe the exit polls. Not since 1918 has there been such a defeat of the 'natural party of government' in Ireland. We finally left civil war politics behind?

Just heard Richard Boyd Barrett of the United Left Alliance on Irish radio hoping for several TD's.

Gods, I hope so. The grass roots enclaves are still there but they are dwindling, thankfully. That said; the swing to FG has more to do with a two fingered salute to FF and economic anxieties than civil war sidings, imho.

Absolutely, let's be honest FF and FG should really be in a single conservative party these days.

But to think that since 1932 FF have never fallen below 39% of the vote and now they may well be wiped out in Dublin! My nan used to tell stories about bowing her head as Dev passed in the street, now they get spat on.

Most important swing imho is the huge vote for Labour.

Unforgievable that Labour will prop up a FG government.

What is interesting is the 32% of FG voters who will give their 2nd pref to Lab.

Thats FF at 8% in Dublin.

Battle between SF and FF for last seat in Dub Mid-West. With Gino Kelly's transfers to decide it. You'd hope that would tip it to SF.

Looks like Barrett and Bacik are scrapping it out with Hanafin fror the final seat in Dun Laoghaire.
Good luck to them both. I was one of the people to recruit RBB to the SWM while Ivana was my Union president at TCD who led us so well on the abortion telephone numbers fight.

Looks Like SF's Dessie Ellis will be electd in Dublin. Seems a life time ago we all marched to the Dail in 1990 to protest his extradition to the UK.

BBC Pariliament just mentioned a candidate, describing him as 'Independent, Left campaigner and property developer' Mick Wallace.

Boards.ie ran a snazzy poll of its members here. Heavily skewed by age and gender, but interesting nonetheless. 22000 voted.

Having listened to him he reminds me of the old Irish Maoist sogans about "Workers, Farmers and Progressive small capitalists Unite!" He does do a good line on the US and Israel fair enough.

What are his chances of getting elected like? Or Clare Daly?
In 2007, Joan Burton of Labour went round telling everyone that Higgins's seat was safe, many assumed so and gave votes and transfers to Labour, and he lost. She's been trying the same trick this year, but he should get back in. Clare Daly in with a shout, she topped the poll on the boards.ie thing I mentioned.
