So our Solar Rig has progressed onwards this winter here in Aus....

New 3 way Unity Horn tops ( well actually the old ones modded and some 10" low-mids added and new 1.4" RCF Comp drivers). Sound even better now with full range , 100hz- 20k, flat phase, true point source. It makes everything else I listen to for work sound...er...well ...shite to be honest!

And here`s a shot of their first real action....( the wood stain was still drying...that`s how new they were !)

Still all 100% Solar and Wind powered ...( even at this gig..the trailer was parked up outside!)

At the moment we use:

Bellringer Ultradrive for LMS
1 x C-Audio Pulse 4 x 300 for 2 x mid highs ( there is a passive x-over for the 1.4" comps and 4" mids) and 2 x monitors
1 x FFa 4004 for low mids and subs
or
1 x Crown CTS3000 for subs ( only on gigs with say an 8hr run time where we know we don`t have to top up the batt bank for the next day!)
Mix Wizz desk with DBX comps and Eq`s.

The reasoning on the Pulse and FFa`s are that they are very efficient for their size. We pull about 2.5 - 3.0 amps 240v RMS when running DJ`s pretty loud with just the Pulse and FFa but add the Crown and that bumps up to 4.0-5.5a 240v RMS which might not sound like much but when you times that by 10 to get back to the 24v batt bank it equals a lot of amphours ! The Crown is a strange beast and puts out nearly the same power at 2/4/8 ohms as it` s a dedicated install amp but it has the same output stage Class I (AB+B) as the I-Techs.... it certainly has the headroom to make the subs shake but is not Class D so not that efficient.

I have a Pulse 650 coming from the Uk which will take over running the mid-highs to give us a bit more headroom and it`s a better high end amp than the 4 x 300, also it will free up the 4 x 300 to do 4 ways of monitors for band stages

Everything has been bought on a real tight budget ( i.e bugger all) and TBH most of it I have shipped from the UK as trying to find cheap ( or efficient) stuff here in Aus is like looking for rocking horse shite! We have been eyeing up the Bellringer I-Nuke though as it is a Class D switch mode and we might just replace the Crown with that if we`re feeling brave!

Next upgrade is to the wind genny and hopefully that`ll give us a 24hr capability on hot, windy days ( which funnily enuff happen quite a lot here!)

The iNuke amps are ridiculous for the price. The software is brilliant. Along with the quite frankly astonishingly good X32 desk behringer aren't quite what they used to be...

Yep...that was us...and Nov 30 is pencilled for another Soundclash night with Adrian and a few other Melb sounds.

They're MC2 amps, funktion 1 branded..... 2 X E45's and 2 X E25's

Thats about as technical as I get, I know how to plug in and trim...... I always get stuck doing the lights cus they're fiddly (everyone hates them) and I gave myself a mini hernia lifting the bins at new year
