Hampton & Richmond Borough vs Dulwich Hamlet, Sat 25th Feb 2023

Got a horrible feeling it's too late. And as has been said more than once recently, who would want to come in to this situation with 13 games to go, and now with a terrible run of games coming up? Especially as there's limited funds available to make it worth their while?

That was awful again today, no apparent gameplan.

Possible sliding doors moment with the Gavin goal that was given as offside on 50 mins ish, look ok to me but I was badly positioned in front of the play.

After that it was all Hampton, we couldn't keep the ball, couldn't find a pass and that was that.

They celebrated after like they had escaped the drop; Hamlet were booed off by the travelling rabble.

As poor as I have seen the team today. Well beaten. Hampton missed a few good chances before their 2 goals. There is no cohesion with the team. Mostly aimless balls played from the back hoping for a break . No real attempt to play the ball through the team. Too many players not good enough or do not care enough. Without Felix , Grainger and Clarke we are an average Isthmian league team

If we're at the stage that we're booing off players then that tells you something. We don't go in for that.

Also ridiculous to see Porter slagging off Gavin for a misplaced pass , who had put much more effort than him and created our best moments

First half was two average sides sounding each other out. Hampton fans I spoke to weren’t optimistic. But our defence looked less convincing than theirs. Disallowed goal for us right after the break looked harsh but that was the last time we tested Alan Julian. We became more and more disjointed and more hit and hope. Can’t remember last time I heard booing at final whistle. Looks terminal.

Can't really argue with that. Just after the hour Hampton took the lead through Adrian Clifton and the Hamlet started playing like Bernie Clifton.

I was right in line with the Gavin goal. Really didn't think it was offside so was surprised to see the flag go up. Result might have been different had the goal stood but to be honest if you can't offer much against a side as poor as yourselves then sadly there isn't much hope.

Thankfully noone seems to have mentioned the word “unlucky” yet. If the current manager is here to create an academy then he had better be getting a move on as we’re probably several years behind most clubs at our level (for obvious reasons). The thing is we’re also someway behind grassroots clubs on our doorstep. On the way to training with Peckham there are probably hundreds of local kids training there as part of the Dulwich Village FC. Peckham Town itself has several youth teams playing regularly as well as the growing women’s team. There is a club called Girls United where many of DHFC(W) coaching staff lend their expertise to training. And of course there is Dulwich Hamlet Júnior FC. It’s going to take some major diplomacy to bring that back in the folc of the senior club. Add to that the lack of enough training facilities to cope with more than a couple of team and the task is definitely going to be an uphill one.

For the first time this season the Football Web Pages “Predicted Table” has the Hamlet in the end of season relegation places. One of those oft overused footballing phrases but are Dulwich Hamlet this season’s “Too big a club to go down”?

That was awful, it is the most misplaced passes I have seen in a match since I don't know when!
The booing is something that should have met some of the previous management's efforts but was justified after that ugly display.l today.

I really don't know what to say apart from start mapping out your Isthmian trips for next season if there isn't a change of management. Hampton were shit but we managed to make them look good in the second half.

I was behind the goal to the opposite side of the linesman for the disallowed goal. I thought it might be tight and immediately looked across, so I was more disappointed than surprised to see the flag go up, but to be honest I was in no position to judge. I guess Hampton may have caved in like we did, given they had only one win since November, but the way our heads seemed to drop was awful. They got another five minutes later and for the next few minutes after that it just looked a matter of how many more we'd let in, we could barely keep the ball out of our own half.

We still have plenty of matches to turn things around and we're still ahead of six other teams, so it's still very much in our own hands. Felix is out for one more match and Grainger can't return soon enough. There are still enough individuals in that squad with enough experience and ability to get the results we need, even if the blend of personnel isn't ideal, but they're running out of time to rediscover their collective mojo.

Completely agree. There's practically a lynch mob for Barnes after a very poor couple of months, despite having taken over someone else's squad mid-season and got them in play off form pre-Xmas. Gavin though flushed tens of thousands down the pan for weeks on end, never took responsibility, incessantly berated players, and frankly made many players worse, but got hardly any criticism.

Feel like the wheels have really come off in the last 3 games for Barnes. Up until and including Tonbridge I thought we were still playing some good football and looked threatening.

A lot of clubs get that “New Manager Bounce” particularly if there is any truth in the rumours of a dressing room bust up after Gavin’s last game in charge. Like any workplace when we get a new manager we tend to get raise our game until we get an idea of the competency of said individual. It sadly looks like Barnes is failing to provide an inspiration either on matchday or in training. Trying to think how many players have now been brought in on loan and I’m now intrigued to see what regulars make of their contribution to the squad.

What I don't understand is why Wood was sidelined; he seemed to be one of our better players who put a shift in. Conversely, Porter adds very little and gets picked every game.
