Google Pixel phones - news, updates

That's horribly unfair, given the hoops you need to leap through! I get obvious rewards being account limited, but having to pay and sign up for something should at least entitle you.
Correction!
I was looking at the Play store on my laptop - did it on my phone and the voucher was there - discount upgraded from £150 to £329 (they only let you use one code dammit :D )- plus the enhanced trade in makes a Pixel 9 Pro 256gb £229.30!

Purchased.

I've paid the dam £5 and still can't see it!

Mind you I still seem to be bronze :hmm:

So I went all out and got the XL. Came down to £511. I traded my P30 as it seemed silly to trade the Pixel 6 seeing the difference. You get a greater trade in value for more expensive phones. I assume if I don't open the XL and they reject the P30 for whatever reason, then I'll be able to return it.

Not sure what I'll do with the Pixel 6, I recently got my partner a very cheap Samsung she's happy with and I don't think I can deal with idiots on FB Marketplace or scammers on eBay.

Being idle here but did any P6 owners note the cost of change to the P9 on this recent deal? (Non XL/Non Pro)

Could be a spend money now to save money later scenario.

Yes, you get offered more trade in the more expensive phone you go for. Even on my ancient P30.

Oh nice. Does it feel like an upgrade?
Well, like I said originally, I have slight regrets in that I didn't really need a better phone than the P7. Sure it's a bit faster, but the main noticeable difference is that the max screen brightness is something like 50% higher and makes outdoor use so much better. I expect the battery usage will be better as well, but that needs a few days to settle in. I've been told that using 5G now has very little battery life penalty compared to the 7, so I'll try that out too. I just turned off 5G on the 7.

If I shot more pictures than I do, the 5x lens on the Pro would've been awfully tempting. I'm not sure the ultra-wide lens on the 9 being almost as good as the main lens is a big deal to me though.

Yes my last few phones have seemed less of an upgrade, I guess its mature technology. I use mine for map reading a lot so a bigger brighter screen should hopefully be a plus.

I'm hoping macro is better as my eye site gets worse and I forget my glasses I increasingly take photos of text and zoom in.

I do think if bloody Apple can offer the standard model with a bigger screen, Google could as well.

Main thing I'd like from Google is Air Tag like device. I know there's stuff like Tile, but Airtags work really well because of how many Apple devices there are.

Mine arrived yesterday whilst I was at work so it got set up around 9pm last night. Then I nipped down to the local Amazon locker to collect the case and screen protector I ordered.

Like it a lot and am glad I didn't go for the XL as I always found the 7 Pro I had too large in my (trouser) pocket and would end up carrying the thing if I wasn't wearing a coat or jacket.

Trade in pack landed today, will post off tomorrow.

It is an odd experience everything on the phone just being exactly the same. Same apps, same order, same 'desktop' etc but very happy to have all the same WiFi networks already in place and working.

BUT, I have a question...
Why have I had this in place on my notifications since last night? I have no idea what it relates to.

Give it a restart!

Yeah, tried that a few times. It comes back. I've switched off app updates over mobile data.

I'm sure it'll disappear at some point it just seems to be taking an age. And when I click on the alert it takes me to the Manage Apps and Device page in settings. Meh.

I've used Nova Launcher for so many years it means each new phone feels both reassuring and yet slightly depressingly the same as the last.

I used to use Nova, I think I paid for it. I think that's why I stopped installing it, same sorta feeling, same old same old.
But then that's true of any launcher you use all the time i suppose, 'eh.

I stick with Pixel launcher now and sometimes switch to Niagra for a simple interface if I want to not use stuff when I am supposed to be working or writing or whatever.
