This is awful, such a beautiful building and those poor, poor students too.
Reports from the scene say the library has gone.
I think the University of Glasgow has a lot of the plans and drawings. They have large holdings of CRM material, as do Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum.i hope the plans for the building weren't in the school of art archives, as they might very well have been.
the room can be rebuilt. the collection may prove harder to replace. It's a glorious room, just awful it's gone. If you've got to be stuck in a library to get your work done, that's the sort of library you want to be stuck in.

only too wellTrue. It's mad how quick so much history can just disappear. I know that's a bit of an obvious statement but hopefully you get what I mean.
hero fire fighters againFirefighters battling the blaze at Glasgow School of Art's Mackintosh building say they have prevented the destruction of both the structure and the majority of its contents.
Scottish Fire and Rescue Service crews are continuing work to fully extinguish the fire and save artworks.
The fire service said more than 90% of the structure was viable and they had protected up to 70% of the contents.
it's strange how rare heroes are in some other lines of work.they just mentioned that on the bbc news

I really hope the library room hasn't been lost though.
Huh?Was this to do with the Commonwealth opening ceremony?
Huh?
I was just reading this out to button, and had to stop due to overwhelming grit in eye when I got to "human wall of fire fighters".
Yes I absolutely agree, much better news than I expected from the news coverage and photos. That's mostly good news. From the photos it looked like it was completely gutted. Terrible shame about the library but hopefully it will be lovingly and respectfully recreated soon.

It really brings home what this government have done (thinking here about the cuts to the fire service) by way of measuring the cost of everything and the value of nothing.I know. I'm surprised at the emotional response I'm having about it considering I've never been there.
Great job by the emergency services.

The benchmark was the whole building not being destroyed. Given the location and that fire easily spreads if not contained, they could have concentrated on saving surrounding buildings not the art school building itself. How do we know it's an amazing job by the fire service? Maybe it was, maybe they should have been able to save the library. Who knows. What's the benchmark?
