Obviously no connection then, just the water, nothing to see here!

Gf is telling me Police are tear gassing at will. They were just getting a drink at a cafe and loads of canisters started coming towards them. They had to run home and get their masks.

A bunch of guys carryıng Ataturk flags just marched passed the ınternet cafe. I'm on the Asıan sıde, so I preseme they're headed to the ferries... whıch were shut down early last nıght, so not even sure ıf they're runnıng today... there'll be somethıng goıng on over here though, ıf only more pan-bangıng...

Yep. There's no doubt the government has the support of the majorıty, ın numerıcal terms.

But the bourgeoısıe ıs now serıously alıenated. Alıenated enough to fıght ın the streets, but also alıenated enough to leave the country. Those who can are lıkely to choose the second optıon, leavıng Turkey ın the hands of the Islamısts for good.

A useful distraction for the regime...

Turkey has responded angrily to today's Guardian revelations about the UK spying on foreign delegations at the G20 summits in London in 2009. My colleague Julian Borger has sent me this.
The Turkish government has demanded an immediate explanation from the UK government of a British eavesdropping operation targeted at the Turkish delegation to a G20 meeting, saying such that - if confirmed - behaviour towards a Nato ally would be "unacceptable" and "scandalous".
The UK ambassador to Ankara has been summoned to the Turkish foreign ministry to hear Ankara's reaction in person.
A spokesman at the foreign ministry read out an official statement saying: "The allegations in The Guardian are very worrying and we want an official and satisfactory explanation for them."
"If these allegations are true, this is going to be scandalous for the UK."
"At a time when international cooperation depends on mutual trust, respect and transparency, such behaviour by an allied country is unacceptable."

There was an undisclosed chemical used as part of pressurised water from "anti-riot vehicles" - described as far worse than the coloured stuff on May Day - on 2nd and 3rd June in Istanbul, Ankara, Hatay. Similar I believe effects in Kurdish areas back in 2011-2012 part of the hunger strike rallies.

Yep, comment on this by Martin P-D (NUT Exec) in his report from the Square as part of a UK Trade Union delegation:

"Basing our expectations on British media reports of tear-gas and pepper-spray, it took all of us time to realise that the choking fumes and burning skin were coming from the water from the TOMA. A soaking from this chemical spray left protestors clutching for air and ready to vomit. Crowds parted every now and again to allow the injured to be rushed away. "

The EU seem to be getting quite involved diplomatically but obviously not having a lot of effect. Erdogan going full out won't have a great impact on their application to join presumably.

Corrosive Chemicals in Turkish Police Water Cannon

By reticentae | Posted June 15, 2013 | Turkey

Reports are coming in of the water cannons used to disperse demonstrators in Turkey are spraying a mixture that is causing corrosive effects on skin.

A doctor volunteering at a makeshift infirmary to care for wounded demonstrators stated: "It burns the skin and causes blistering, it even burned through my gloves".

Another protestor killed over the weekend. 50 year old mother (with children on the main protests in Taksim) Zeynep Eryaşar in Avcilar local demonstration attacked with gas bomb, leading to heart attack and instant death. Brings total to 4.
Word is (at least) 3 are pretty permanently brain-damaged. Either 11 or 12 people have had an eye removed.

Mass arrests have begun today left group ESP has dawn raids 70 arrested. Halkevleri has at least a dozen or so in Eskisehir, Ankara and Istanbul.

awful news, and the UK media is not reporting things as much

Stupid question: How come the total is now 4 when it was already said to be 4 last week?

Doctors Association included I think the non-protestor caretaker in Ankara who died as a result of a heart attack after successive gassings of the area or maybe the police officer who managed by himself to fall off a motorway overpass with his mask on running after protesters below.

I`m in Munich now, not running away, a scheduled trip and will be back in Istanbul next week.

Starting to get more involved than I wanted to in this now, lots of my friends have been hurt. I see it going on, in one form or another, until Erdogan resigns. Which he won`t, so we`re in for a long haul.

It's been a heavy wave:- these are the confirmed ESP arrests from this morning:

http://aykiridogrular.com/haber-229...ari-Basladi-Devrimcilere-Gezi-Operasyonu.html

64 in Istanbul, 3 in Ankara, 1 in Cannakkale.

Others for Kaldirac, BDSP, Alinteri and Halkevleri.

Lots of people are still in prison from a wave of arrests on 2 Jun.

It´s heavy alright. The streets of Kadikoy-Moda were rammed with demonstrators last night, as was Bagdat Cadessi--there were still people milling around at 4am. The police are freaking out by all accounts. Erdogan has mentioned the possbility of using the army, which would be very interesting. I doubt he can rely on them 100%, he must be getting worried.

Even if he survives this in the short term, the country is so bitterly divided now it`s hard to see much of a future there tbh.

Bulent Arinc mentioned the army but not directly referring to 'every form of security force is available to us' - . There is no need to use the army so as to distinguish themselves from the other parties which are apparently .

Gendarmerie - a rural armed forces police wing - usually from rural areas professional soldiers (not the real professional standing army nor the conscript part of it) - were maintaining already police-won areas like Mecidiyekoy and Taksim.

Alevi protestors on the E5 tried to block some from moving but the gendarmerie didn't open fire, the police used gas bombs and cleared the motorway for the gendarmerie to move.

In general the police have won. The one who shot dead Ethem Sarisuluk might be left out to hang because that is on tape and there are about 20 witnesses. The others are fine.
