What a fascinating story...I really hope poor lady who has since passed away didn't struggle for money her whole life whilst having a €24 million painting hanging on her wall at home. What a mad world we live in.

Stroke of luck that it wasn't just tossed out as part of some house clearance.

I'd like to think I'm knowledgeable enough about art to know something like this was worth getting looked at, but honestly I'd probably have just assumed it was some worthless tat if it was hanging above a 90-year old woman's hotplate, and definitely not worth the cost and hassle and potential embarrassment of getting it valued to the tune of pennies.

Mad to think the value we attach to things when potentially it could have ended up going to the tip or a charity shop for nothing. I'm sure some house clearance people may have even just lobbed it in a bin!
