Not far from me. This was the famous 'poor doors' building which Class War demonstrated outside. Seemed to be largely empty for a long time.

I gather a number of the flats, on floors lower than the one where the fire was, are managed by a housing association.

One way to make tower blocks safe is to sell them to investors so that the only people in them when there's a fire is that one person and the security guard.

ETA: Apart from the HA tenants - lower floor because they're less desirable, but at least it means they're safe.
