Festival Season 2005! Some dates and details.

a jaded veteran reports

Earthwise is an ultra hippy low impact chakra balancing body paint didgeridoo droning green gathering sort of affair. Nice enough last year in the sunshine, but fairly dull if truth be told (IMO). Tickets have just gone on sale apparently.

Cheltenham Jazz Festival
27 April - 2 May 2005

http://www.cheltenhamfestivals.co.uk/frame_festindex.cfm?FEST=MUSIC

I think I may well go to a few of the gigs at this festival (I havnt seen it posted elsewhere on this thread). Highlights include Mr Scruff on the Saturday, Ornette Coleman!!! on the Sunday, Joshua Redman on Monday followed by Herbie Hancock. thats some serious JAZZ for those who like that kind of thing.. Ive never been to it before so I have no idea what outdoor stuff they may have, but they usually have a free thing or two at these events.

But I have been to the Brecon Jazz festival in the past,
12th - 14th August

And had a brilliant time! They usually have big acts in the main hall and littlel stages and venues around the town and a lottery funded Jazz-Theatre thing. Its also an unnoficial welsh beer festival and theres always a friendly mix of pissed up locals and beard scratching-panama-hat-wearing-white-socks-and-sandals-types. Its a great excuse to drink lots of BRAINS....

My dad goes to both of them. Hes 72, but he still has his 'jazz man' goatie beard!

Just a short note to let all you festy lovers know that the Big Green gathering site has finally been updated, and tickets are now available from the website.

Hope to see some of you there.

Looks pretty good (especially now Cracked Actors are playing :) ) Went to Blandford Forum festival a few years ago and had a wicked time. I presume that this is the same festival evolved a bit (I may be wrong).

I pondered on the Glade festival but after reading the efestivals boards and their shitty rules on campervans (no entry from campervan field back onto the site between 11pm and 6 am), we decided to go to Ashton Court instead.

Sounds like a fab idea pinkmonkey! :)
Would love to come in a van posse with you but we're hen-nighting in Budapest that weekend....

Definitely like the sound of that Reggae Wales festival in Haverfordwest. Anyone planning to go to this?

So far, Jan and I will be Big Chill-ing and Shambala-ing.....and I'm going to go to the Leamington Peace Festie and Off The Tracks September.

We thought of going to Cropredy but then downloaded the mp3 of 'On the ledge' and changed our minds immediately :D - I have to say, I think Fairport Convention are truly horrendous!

Woo-hoo, festie season here we come!!! :)

Anyone planning to go to Stonehenge this year for celebrating the solstice? Jan and I are thinking of going down in the van after the Leamington Peace festie....

Endorse it in Dorset 2005

Headliners are Zion Train, Desmond Dekker, Pronghorn , The Highliners, The Ukrainians, SubGiant and loads more.
Family camping areas, kids entertainment/crafts, Badger Beers.

Runs 12-14th August

Tickets are £35 for the whole weekend inc Camping. Day tickets are available, as are kids prices. Under 10's go free. :)

A diverse selection of music - something for everyone - a chilled vibe ( if last year was anything to go by) in lovely Dorset

website

( it's not The Blandford Festival, but one set up by the Proghorn people - and the line up has changed slightly - see festival board for details :) )

That looks like an excellent festival, and seeing Zion Train is something I REALLY want to do this Festival Season, but that's looking increasingly unlikely now, because unfortunately the Endorse It thing is clashing with another festival ... shhhh ...... :(

And I've not heard of them making any other UK festivals so far ...

I've checked the ZT site, and the updated gig guide there says they'll be over in the Czech Republic on 29 August, the weekend of Beautiful Days ... :(

Loads of updates I need to make now to the main Festie Lists at the top of this thread ... <kicks himself to make himself do it>

I hope you enjoy it somewhat better than we did last year, han .... this year, we'll be celebrating the Solstice on Glastonbury Town and Tor with the mooses and Tort (Solstice morning is just before the main festie opens)

Hiya WoW,
We saw them on Saturday in Frome, supported by SubGiant - superb. Watch for SubGiant - destined for BIG things

some dates for north-westerners (dunno if they've been posted already...)

darwen, may 29 - 30: darwen music festival. a huge line up of people i've never heard of... last year they had the buzzcocks headlining, year before it was bad manners. this year it's... spear of destiny. ah well - at least the beer is good. :) http://www.darwenmusicprojects.org/

liverpool, june 17 - 19: africa oye - a host of quality african music, plus the mightly barrington levy! it's generally at a few different venues accross livepool, some free, some not - the main outdoor bit is in sefton park... last year there was tinariwen and misty in roots, blazing sunshine & drunken dancing. same expected here... http://www.africaoye.com/

This looks unmissable for those types that hardly ever leave London  .

Yeah well I've just totally depressed myself reading through this thread to see if there was much going on in London :(. We'll just have to go to the park a lot, aurora.

NB William you've missed off Sidmouth Folk Festival (not that I've ever even been to that). It seems to be 29th July - 5th August, which bizarrely makes it clash with both Cambridge and Womad.

Yet more updates to add!

I should definitely add Sidmouth to the list, especially as that Festival (which I've never been to :( ) is in severe danger of going under after around 40 years .... this year may be the last ever :(

anyone been to the 'run to the sun' festival in Newquay? ..been roped into going to it... any good??

I'm giving Glasto a miss this year on account of moving from Brighton to Edinburgh but am really looking forward to the Wickerman festival - probably what Glasto used to be like 25 years ago!!
