Fat White Family & various offshoot bands (Moonlandingz, Insecure Men, Warmduscher, Pregoblin etc)

I had totally lost interest, but the fact that no review of the festival even mentioned them piqued my interest, and sure enough the live footage is GLORIOUS they have totally dropped any attempt at pop, it is just like a weird ritual, it is back at their best imo.

This looks pretty great!

They were so good.

All reports of recent live shows have been excellent.

I saw them last summer and they were on such great form. I’d seen them a couple of times before and they had been either a disaster or a triumph :D They seen to be smashing it out of the park right now 😎

Lias Saoudi has written a great piece for The Quietus about supporting Liam Gallagher at Knebworth - lols all the way through

(I saw Saoudi doing a solo set at a festival in the summer and he was incredible btw - was always agnostic about FWF but keen to see them next time they tour)

Absolutely brilliant writing and as funny as fuck.

Ugh. She's manufactured isn't she.

I have no problem with that, I'm listening to all her stuff on YouTube, but she has a team behind her.

Which is cool etc but I was kinda hoping that she's be more of the Pregoblin, FWF ethics of music. 49000 listens per month on Spotify.

I'm still crying over how beautiful the music is though.

Whay a quandary! Hope she makes it. She deserves to.

I don't care if she is or isn't.

I fucking love it and have shared it, through my tears of how great it is.

I haven't been moved by an artiste in this way for so long that the emotion I'm feeling is a welcome release.

She really isn’t.

She is definitely her own person. What are you basing this assumption on?

She’s ambitious and she knows the music industry is, yunno, an industry so she‘s increasing her chances, taking advice and guidance from people she believes to be better skilled or informed on certain stuff than she is. She’s decided to follow a particular trackway, maybe she sees that including behind the scenes skills and connections that more apparently earthy artists (like the FWF) eschew.

Every successful act has a team really. Manager, agent, press agent, tour manager, engineer, producer, road crew, and the ones that keep the home fires burning, they’re part of the team too.

The band is a team for the songwriters, sometimes they get to contribute too.

If your team also involves stylist PA writers or whatever, why is that less authentic? Is Madonna fake, or Gaga? They’ve got Teams.

Jessica is really talented. It’s a pity she and Alex Sebly don’t seem to be working together anymore cos they came up with some top stuff.

The whole schtick of the talented individual battling the high seas of indifference to bring you bluesy truth that pierces the indifference of the everyday…. All that necessitates a really huge number of people who are dedicated and committed to being invisible to the punter.

She is definitely canny. She knows what she wants, she knows there’s a time limit on her chances and opportunities, so she’s doing the necessaries to push through to where she wants to be.

Alex should take note, I reckon. He needs to focus his attention and be more clear in his ambitions. He’s an excellent and interesting songwriter and he should have started focussing on that several years ago instead of putting all his hopes into Pregoblin. He deeply wanted to to be a pop star though, and spent those years chasing that dream. He’s far to old for that now, so hopefully (and no doubt reluctantly) he’s put that aside now. (I hear a rumour that he’s currently working with a huge international star.)

Alex and various Fat Whites were at the Old Dispensary last night (drinking, not playing) for the Johnny Carter tribute.

For the first time since 2000 when I lived in LJ and used to pop into the Albert but was too shy to say Hi I'm feeling like I should jump on a train and meet you two finally and just fan geek about all the brilliant new bands out there.

Never actually met a real life Urbanite. 😂

We can still talk about the bands at a distance though.

My current top tips:
Beige Banquet (such a horrible name but there you go). The front man is the bass player, who doesn’t actually sing (singer is on guitar, over on stage right) but he’s definitely the front man
The Early Mornings
Heartworms
Blitz Playhouse

Old favourites include Meatraffle and SCUDFM (Iggy played them on his show last week) and Paddywak. I’m not so keen on FatDog but plenty like them a lot.

Keep an eye on Lou Smith’s YouTube channel, he films a lot of the gigs for this scene.
