You have to be seriously rich to afford a hundreds of quid a week habit and not end up homeless and or doing crime to get the funds. Then she got the best help etc of course it makes a massive difference. I was just objecting to bs dismissing it as 'she chose to get mullered' which you would not say of most people with substance abuse issues, I hope.

Maybe the immediate physical consequences, yes but it didn't do much to protect her from a long and publicly evidenced psychological decline. Money/privilege/family-status or not, she's been a pretty sad and rather obviously unwell figure for a lot longer than she was ever "It"

This really. As one of the first people who was famous just for being I absolutely hated everything she stood for. She got away with being an annoying, braying prick because she was a toff and so it was somehow considered "charming". It wasn't. It was an embarrassing car crash.
I am, however, sorry that the poor woman has suffered with a brain tumour and died so young. It is a tragedy.
