F1 2020

Ted Kravitz is GO! He's a splendid kilometre from anyone else, including the camera-bod, but he's wearing mask.

He says no-one's allowed in the pit-lane that's not in a team.

Vettel says Ferrari are lying about offering him a contract
The 2020 Formula 1 season promises to be difficult between Sebastian Vettel and Ferrari. A few days before the start of the Formula 1 World Championship, the German driver has decided to settle accounts with his soon to be former employer. The four-time world champion believes that contrary to public statements made by Mattia Binotto, he has not received any offers from the scuderia for a possible renewal of his contract. Mattia Binotto said last March: “We’ve begun discussing a new agreement. It’s something we’ll have to ratify before the end of the season. It is important for him and for us that things are settled as soon as possible. Discussions are ongoing, and I hope it will happen soon.”

Sebastian Vettel has come out of his silence and says that “I’ve seen here and there that I didn’t accept Ferrari’s proposal, but that’s not true because they didn’t offer me anything at all.” An intriguing statement and certainly one that already puts the German driver at odds with his 2020 team. “One day I received a call from Mattia Binotto who told me that Ferrari had no intention of renewing the contract with me.” confirmed Vettel yesterday. “We did not even discuss the matter and I can confirm that I did not receive any offer from them.” concludes the German.

This is a clear indication that as far as Vettel is concerned, Binotto wasn’t truthful with his comments to the press on the new contract. As to who is or isn’t telling the truth, anyone can guess.

The Racing Points look fast!

I bet they’re faster at circuits which were used by F1 last year, than at any new tracks F1 has never been to (Mugello, Algarve, etc). Right now they have the benefit of all their spy photos of the setup Merc out onto their car at each race. Starting from scratch might be more challenging.

It will be interesting to see how Perez and Stroll compare to each other now with a competitive car under them. No more hiding places for Stroll, not that he maybe needs any?

Red Bull protest Mercedes DAS system
Red Bull have formally lodged a protest against Mercedes' 'DAS' system ahead of Formula 1's season-opening Austrian GP.
The DAS - Dual-Axis Steering - device, which allows drivers to move the steering wheel backwards and forwards, was used by both Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas in Friday practice and Mercedes are confident that it is legal having discussed it with the FIA before its debut at Testing in February. But Red Bull have launched a protest, citing an "alleged breach of Articles 3.8 and 10.2.3" of F1's technical regulations during Practice Two. Article 3.8 relates to parts having aerodynamic influence on the car, and 10.2.3 states that "no adjustment may be made to any suspension system while the car is in motion".

Mercedes and Red Bull representatives reported to Austrian GP stewards at 7.10pm local time (6.10pm UK). Mercedes dominated Friday's running in Austria, with Hamilton leading a one-two in both sessions. Although it's unclear if DAS gives Mercedes' drivers a big advantage, the legality of the innovative system - which alters the toe angle of their car - has been questioned since it sparked intrigue at pre-season testing.

The FIA has already confirmed that it won't be allowed on the 2021 cars. Red Bull were planning to protest against Mercedes at the Australian GP before it was cancelled, and team boss Christian Horner strongly hinted to Sky F1 earlier on Friday that they would do so formally. He said a protest would be the best way to seek clarification. "Obviously we're keen just to get clarity on that system using the mechanisms that are available and getting it addressed quickly early in the weekend," Horner explained. "We have a difference of opinion on the system. Its primary performance isn't to steer car obviously so, yes, of course there is a technical position that Mercedes will think one thing, our engineers think something else so in situations like this the best thing is to address it via a protest."

Horner also described the use of DAS as a "grey area" in the regulations, while Mercedes boss Toto Wolff stated: "Clarification is always good. [But] we think we are on the right side." Horner also said Red Bull would consider adding the concept to their car should it be permitted. "It depends what it actually does and achieves," he added. "Everything has to earn its place on the car. Obviously it's a clever system, it's an ingenious system but obviously these rules are so complex. It's just understanding what part of the regulations it fits."

how glad i will be when Horner finally moves on i will be grateful, but sadly he is turning into F1 next eddie Jordon

he gets more airtime and media time that any other team boss

Newey clever use of body work and exhaust gases lead to 4 championships and i don't remember the guy having an issue with it :D

Red Bull lost their appeal but word is they have already developed their own system, other teams are asking "how did they [Red Bull] manage that with all the factories closed down".

I don't think this will be the only protest this weekend, I have a feeling that Renault will protest Racing Point, claiming they copied the 2019 Mercedes car.

more than likely but it like the DAS system has that already been investigated by the FIA

More hoping to see the Racing Point having Copied last years Merc if they remember to deal with the overheating issues the Arrows had last year

:hmm:

Well ladies and gentlemen, the time has finally come for the first qualifying of 2020, Lewis hasn't been great at the last few races, last time (and only time iirc) he won here was back in 2016. I have a feeling he plans to win this year. I'm really interested to see how, if at all, Racing Point has improved.

I have the usual pre season question for Badgers, have you managed to connect your laptop to your smart TV via your WiFi? ;)
