Eurovision 2024 - Malmö

Honestly Eurovision is one of the few times of the year I really just try enjoy the show and this is a year it’s become so difficult to, simply because of the mess of everything around it. Might actually be the first year in a very long time im not gonna tune in at all. What a mess it’s been, EBU doing themselves absolutely no favours at all.
I feel similar. I love Eurovision the whole, silly, wonderfully, bizarre, utter joy of it. But this year I I feel really conflicted. I love coming on this thread and Facebook and twitter, reading people's amusing observations and making my own but I just don't feel like that tonight.

I suspect I probably will watch it but it isn't the same

Yeah same here. It's been a total fuckup, hasn't it?

I was unsure but my husband feels strongly about not watching so that’s ok. I could have gone to watch it with friends but have decided not to.

I love it so do feel sad but yeah, it wouldn’t be the same.

Obviously I’ll be checking this thread for any drama!

It’s definitely a year where instead of the over the top campness and sparkles is something I enjoy, and more that watching the show become a real spectacle for everything to forget about how rubbish the world is sometimes.

This honestly just feels quite sad and draining to even try keep up with this year.

Ireland's entrant has posted on Instagram that they met with the EBU to discuss concerns about harassment from the Israeli broadcaster KAN. It appears that the "official" line given to them has been contradicted by a producer.

It now feels that we could have very last minute withdrawals.

Why on earth are Israel among the favourites? The controversy factor? I'd have thought the dull Serb entry would be the favourite.

Because people who object to Israel taking part will vote for one of the other acts or not vote at all. People who support Israel may vote for Israel even if its not their favourite or they don't normally take part so they will lose very few votes but potentially gain a lot of votes.

As an alternative to this, Channel 5 is showing An Invitation to Murder, one of the worst films I've seen for years. Genuinely puzzling that it was ever released.

All this could have been sorted weeks ago if only Eurovision had had a conscience. As it is it could turn out to be a bigger farce than it has already become.
There was a way out of this clusterfuck but they were cowards and didn't take it.

Estonia's entry is my favourite but I doubt they'll win.

Ukraine knows how to package a Eurovision entry, perhaps the most assured of all the ex-Soviet republics. They've used rap more than once, too, something of note. Second place is awful in the running order for this.

I notice that on the app Ireland cant be voted for...is this the same in the UK?
