I dislike these descriptive mash ups.
I find it juvenile.
It adds nothing the discussion.
It cheapens the point being made.
It interrupts my thinking as I read.
It often makes me pause to think “Who…?”.
It strikes me as
stop what you’re doing and pay attention to me! Rick/] I want to know what the argument is, not how wacky the writer is.
It’s in the same realm as the eye-roll headline puns in the red tops.
I wish it would stop. I also know that it won’t stop. I suspect the people doing it will respond with stuff like “not doing any harm, if you don’t like it skim or ignore, I don’t care what you think” etc. I’ve been trying to skim and ignore but that still obliges me to be attentive. to the thing that’s annoying me.
I know this is the ridicule thread but it happens elsewhere too. I’m using
krtek a houby ’s post to make the point. I’d be okay with it if it just happened in here and didn’t happen on other more serious threads*. That would be great, in fact.
