but yeh, it could be for that reason.

Texas is suffering from massive food spoilage after long-running power outages. So what's the governor up to?

My former Representative, Jeff Fortenberry, used to start every townhall meeting with a speech about how Social Security was causing the deficit and needed to be cut. I almost got myself thrown out or arrested at one he held. When he started on that part of his intro I said, "not true!", just a bit louder than I intended. The entire row of people around me took up the chant of "NOT TRUE! NOT TRUE!" His state patrol security would have thrown me out except I was so far into the middle of the crowd that removing me would have caused a riot. It always annoyed me that he knew better because he was on the committee that oversees Social Security. In any case, he has since been convicted of accepting cash from people he shouldn't have, and lying about it to the FBI. The last time I heard of him, he was in the California penal system and his lawyer in the case was fined for unethical behavior.
The short version of this story is that yes, they want to dismantle and/or cut Social Security. I've heard it repeatedly from my own Republican Representative's mouths.
1: oh, jeff fortenberry. fuck that guy.
2: good on you. there's such a well of cupport for social safety net programs. you'd never understand from listening to rightwing propaganda mills how democrats keep wining elections.
3: it actually plays a role in my decision when to quit work (for i have reached a certain age) that social security is under attack. but payments could be cut at any time i guess.
In honor of Associate Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito—who last year penned the majority opinion overturning the constitutional right to reproductive freedom—the Satanic Temple officially opened the “Samuel Alito’s Mom’s Satanic Abortion Clinic.”
\u201cTST Health is proud to announce the launch of Samuel Alito's Mom's Satanic Abortion Clinic in New Mexico.
