England v Slovakia

I think they played to win but they just didn't have a clue how to do it.
Possibly but i had a free season ticket for Fulham when Woy was there and it was painful watching his team.No thrills no risk manager.

This Slovakia team beat Spain in qualifiers playing the same negative tactics. We'll do better against most positive opposition.

It's still coming home :D

That was such a dull game, was watching it with my housemate and had to apologise (he's Dutch so he can talk lol)
I said it before the game, it was ridiculous playing our B team when we haven't played well yet, if we'd gone all out against Slovakia who were very poor we might have gotten a few goals, won the group, and gone into the knockouts on a high. As it is it's yet another trudging performance and no joy as a fan
If the Welsh lose their next game then they will still be happy because they won their group and trounced Russia, if England lose our next game then it's yet another no show
Can't think of who should replace him, but Hodgson needs to go.

Plenty of joy for me - I get to watch our glorious quarter final appearance now when I wouldn't have been able to otherwise.

Yeah, yeah. So it goes round and round again.

England always play shit against defensive boring teams. We don't have the players to break down sides like that, the premiership doesn't cultivate that sort of player. England versus Spain, or Portugal. That will be a game.

Spain retain the ball so well that i don't think England would have a chance.

We'd be Slovakia in that game...but we'd actually attempt a counter attack or two.
Slovakia did what they needed to do.A better team would have opened them up eventually and i think Spain with the ball would frustrate a limited english side.

They were very defensive, but it should not be beyond England to score one goal against a team like that over 90 minutes
That was like watching a qualifier, except that England are good in the qualifiers

They have to wait for other results to find out.
I was really surprised how they held on for a draw...I was expecting them to throw everything at us in the last 20 minutes or so...they must have done the sums and are looking okay to go through

Yeah, they decided to take a chance. I reckon they have about a 80% chance of progressing actually.

It will take a very unlikely set of results for them not to go through. First up, it will need NI not to lose to Germany today.

Watched it in a bar in Portugal and the con census there was that it was similar to the last Portugal game ie possession, pressure , attack to no avail. Good stubborn defending ( the top 4 placed third team formula pretty much ensures this) , some great saves, half chances but no moment of magic . Bit low on creativity in the midfield imo and as yet no game changer.

The Slovakia situation is a glimpse of why the expanded format is crap. It encourages defensive play.
There are pluses and minuses. It also meant that all four teams had something to play for in the final matches in both groups a and b. And tbh, there's still a pretty strong incentive not to finish third. I'd far rather be England than Slovakia in the next round.

Why weren't you watching the Wales match?? :D

I was on the train back from Lyon so missed the whole thing, which seems to be the better option in this case.

Plus ca change.
I watched the England game when I came in late last night. Obviously I watched the Wales game live :)

really can`t see what all the moaning is about long as we do not get
Portugal we will be fine, bring on the mighty Iceland then its anyone`s game in the last 8
who knows what will happen, just pleased we are the last 16 and woy is proven right

I watched the last 20 minutes, and that seemed like a lifetime. England have certainly got the players, but collectively it's horribly uninspiring to watch.
Not sure that's fair. England were really good against Russia, and pretty good second half against Wales.

To be fair the last 20 mins were the most insipid from England's point of view. Thought they were lively 1st half and after half time.
