I was <this> close to getting into the Love Frogs van when they left on Friday, but I had a course to go to instead.

Next year, there, with bells on. :)

ahh reflecting and looking at photos, truly wonderful weekend. as has already been mentioned, much respect to all the organisers for all their hard work and also to the security for smiling so often, generally being pleasant and barely visible. good, good job.

Just absolutely perfect in every way...
almost, but i would have preferred the whole thing to have been spread out over perhaps twice the space. the bleed over from stage to stage was a pain at times and the wonderful Splott Brothers struggled to be heard on occasion.

also a bit more local produce would have been cool, less sparkly neon bumph and more bread, cider etc

on the whole though, a first class festy

you do have a point about this - they actually reduced the arena size this year to give campers more room, but there was some bleed in volume. We could have done with our tent being a bit further from the techno at night, for example...

The best improvement to this festival would be if it went on for an extra day :) was just getting into it properly and it was time to leave :(

reduced? i guess you have to juggle things a bit for a small festy. shame though cuz we had tons of space in family camping. the field was mostly empty over the back

off work ill today - either a bug or some nasty after effect - so uploading pics now. Still don't have the energy for a proper write-up but i honestly think it's the best festy around.

I didn't make it to work either, I just couldn't drag myself out of bed this morning - despite going to bed early - I barely slept while I was there, so I ended up sleeping for 12 hours. And my back hurts, must have pulled a muscle.

I really really hope it doesn't get any bigger - small but perfectly formed - I hope it stays that way. :)

Well done to the organisers!

I'm also chuffed that so many lovely people spent time in our tent, hurray for big porches!

Have I mentioned that Sunday was one of the best days I've EVER had? ;)

I watched 'Gone With The Wind' when I got home yesterday, for some reason it seemed the best way to end the whole experience  :D

Got the box set (Collectors edition) from Amazon for £5 the other day!!!!!!!!!!

/end of derail

Yep, can’t be disputed was a top festie – loved every minute and Sunday particularly was special. Passes the test that on the way home you’re still smiling at random people until you realise you can’t do that :( .

Great bands and Big Red Ass was stunning, music for the sheer enjoyment of it. Reminded me of the music being played by the little troop of flippered divers who shuffled round Beautiful Days last year. Loved em.

Agree about the superb organization. The security guards looked pretty much friendly, much better having them wandering round than normal sullen police presence. And one can’t really speak too highly of the toilets. As Elvis remarked, he wasn’t expecting to have such a positive experience in the toilets at a festie (he wouldn’t tell us what it was, though).

The closeness of the stages did make it difficult to separate things out when you were not close in to the music. I didn’t mind that tooooo much since you could always move closer to the band you want to hear – it was never too crowded so you couldn’t do that. Lovely having such a short distance between bands, though, with that nice civilized shady area with seats for when the sun just got too much. It did also mean you know what’s happening with the band you wanted to see on the next stage on at the same time. If the festie gets bigger the stages could perhaps be further apart but not too much further. I’d not have caught ‘Teenage Kicks’ if Elvis hadn’t heard it above the band we were listening to, for example. You’d forgotten that, hadn’t you eh Elvis?

I thought Sunray was spectacular at ladies day – wore the off-the-shoulder number with a surprising elegance and sophistication. I’d have joined in myself of course but don’t carry a spare dress with me at festies ‘just in case’ *adds to camping list*

Great seeing the urban contingent again – makes a real difference being able to have a wander knowing you can always find someone for a natter when you want a bit of a sit down. So, apologies to the people I didn’t get to talk to. And apologies to the people I did get to talk too, since a certain incoherence seems to come over me at festies. I’ve noticed this before and it clearly needs further research into causes at future venues. Endorset next year for a start, I’d say.

a lady was giving a man lying on his back quite a dance show - she had a frock on and kept gyrating over his face. It was fucking funny :D

hehe yep i noticed that, i was trying not to look though :(

My highlight seemed a bit contraversial when I talked about it on sunday. I thought Lee Perry orchestrating a jam with a bunch of musicians who'd never played together or with him was amazing.

Many others seemed to see it as kind but embarassed musicians stopping him showing himself up.

Coincidentally or not, I'm also off work now, I had to come home at 11:30 today -- just hoping it's one of those shortlived bugs.

Feeling crap, but I'm still feeling a warm glow inside about everything that was so good about this festival :)

At risk of rattling a few cages, i think what makes it so special compared with other festivals of a similar size is that it's not run by hippies - the people who run it are very much into punk, rockabilly, country etc and it shows in the line-up. There's a few trad festy bands around like Tarantism (shudder) but mainly you get a much broader range - IMO - than you would elsewhere.

I actually agree with this. I have never liked Tarantism (nice people -- I've camped with them earlier this year -- but hopeless music ... ).

But generally, the lineup over the w/e was as good as it gets, Goldblade aside (I walked away from them!) I liked pretty much everyone I saw, particularly Pronghorn and the Tofus.

Zion Train were   -- my highlight!

(shame The Tofus and ZT clashed, but I managed plenty of both :) )

Did anyone see the Don Bradmans, Hobo Jones, and Fat Drunk and Stupid when they were doing their own set? All great .....

Not well enough to say anything more yet ...

So glad I booked a day off today too.....

I arranged, a while back, to go to the theatre with my dad tonight.....doh! Hope I don't fall asleep. Can only just keep me eyes open....zzzzzz

Full of warm glow too about this festie. The only festie I went to this year, and it was one of the best ever! Definitely up for next year :)

I need to work on my stayupallnight skills again - went to bed at 11 on sat night after a late one on friday   Was so tired that I kept falling asleep sat on the ground in front of Lee Perry......

Pathetic :D

Then I went to bed at 2 on sunday but was kept up all night by that annoying needing a piss but not able to do one pill effect. I think that;s the most irritating thing that's ever happened to me - apart from Dub getting in around 4 and asking me repeatedly if I needed a wee

Working a night shift last night wasn't much fun, but at least I'd gotten myself used to being up all night...:D

I agree with all the good things being said about the festival - the organisation, line-up, size, security and facilities were all just right, and the perfect weather didn't hurt either. My only regrets is that I don't seem to be able to stay up for three days straight anymore so had sleep rob me of hours of festival-going.

I might even be going next year too - turns out I'll be back in the country for a wedding not far from that part of England at the right weekend next year, so will try and sneak off for the festival...

You know that's one of the main reasons why I stopped taking pills, it's so annoying!!!  (well that and the comedowns)

Had some mdma on Saturday, but as usual the only effect it had on me was to make me feel limp and tired.

The drug that had the most effect on me was glucose on Sunday night. I hadn't eaten much all day, then I had a spicy pork thing from the oriental place. After that I jumped about the place non stop for the whole set of Zion Train.

I fell asleep while it was still light on Sunday so missed the entire evening/night. at self

Not too far off my experience that -- I managed lates (well lateishes ) on Friday and Sunday, but I literally could not stay awake long enough to hear Dreadzone on Saturday ....

Heard em well from the campsite cafe and from my tent though, so that was  -- and I'll be seeing em again, properly, this coming w/e. :)

It must be being ill, but I failed to mention Back to the Planet in the other post -- they ROCKED!!!!

Have some great pix of them. I will have to get this sorted ... not yet available ...
