Elder Scrolls IV - Oblivion

You seem to be missing the point.

<snip>

That might give you an idea of what I am talking about.

So you make ranged skills a minor attribute and go hand to hand as much as possible... I haven't seen many mobs you can't engage in melee. If you're going to complain about stuff like that, it would be better to focus on the lack of melee abilities - it would've been nice if you could purchase melee attacks that would consume stamina in the same way that you can buy spells.

LDR - whack the difficulty level up a bit.

Yes. Thank you. But I din't konw that before I strated to delete all the Oblivion files from my comp. When I put the disk in I only get the option screen.

Brows the install DVD in explorer and run setup.exe (Or whatever the main program is)

That was just an example. Same as healing spells, destruction spells etc.

I prefer a game where I can earn what I need and then decide what skills i want to improve, given certain class restrictions, rather then have the decision forced upon me by the actions I take, which sometimes, I won't have a choice about.

That is what factions are for isn't it? To have your actions decide your fate.

Well, we're obviously looking for different things from the game. For me, levelling up is just a means to get me to meet new people and see new things and take part in new stories. It kinda takes the fun out of it when I have to manage my character too much (even picking attributes to boost is pain - there are some levelling mods out there that change the system, so I might check them out - you should too, fong)

I didn't know that, I think I will have a little look around.

See I am a stat man. I like to see that AC increase, the Str boost, the hits go to double figures the crit rate in the 30% rate.

All that to me gives a sense of accomplishment, more then going Ohhh a different looking tree, or a quest line that takes me out to the middle of nowhere talking to some random NPC who waffles on for ages.

Thats my worst trait when it comes to RPG games, I just can't be arsed to listen to the waffle.

Yea got it working.....

What a fantastic game.

Fong you don't have to listen to the NPC you can just click the left mouse and they skip to the next sentence or if they are at the end of what they are saying they shut up. :)

Oh my God....Oh my Nine

This game is very impressive.

How are you guys doing? Only just got to level two, managed to close the first gate by running about like a maniac :p

Chilling out now trying to make potions and other stuff, the dark brother hood is totally cool  I've nerver played a game so amazing. :D

I'm a bit fed up with it, truth be told.

It crashes far too often for me to really get into it. I'm sure it would be amazing but just when it starts to grab me, it crashes.

I just shut the first gate, after levelling up to 7 or so. I'm a full member of the mage's guild now, and I've got a wicked lightning staff. With a bag full of soul gems and Soul Trap at the ready, the thing keeps itself running. It's great :) Zzzzap! Zzzzzap! It's great fun on skeletons - the bones go flying everywhere. I've got a veritable delicatessen's worth of alchemy ingredients. I'd better get mixing potions. Anyone know some nifty recipes?

Running a couple of handy mods too. One shrinks the fonts and icons for your inventory so you can fit about twice as much on. It also zooms the map screen out so you see more.

I don't really know about anything to do with mods but after tweaking some of the files I've managed to get the game runing really smoothly.

The strangest thing I did was to put AA on to x6 (X850pro card) The game runs better than it was without AA  I also stoped the reflections from windows but I don't think that would be much of a boost.

Just google "Tweaks Oblvion" and you will find plenty of stuff.

I found editing the grass levels gave me ahuge boost in FPS ;)

Sorry to say again but the Dark brother hood jus kicks ass only in my 4th quest.

This game has so much depth.....

I've downloaded this to see if it's playable and if it's worth a go (and I have the time!).

I've always wanted to get into these sort of games but never have, so I am staving off spending my cash until I know.

Could you give me a link for these mods? I can't seem to find them.

There are two amazing mods that I'm using, combined togther they make the game look even more fantastic. In on the 3D maps you walk around in in the game have been enhanced and the other mod makes every thing look about twice a detailed. I'm not at home now but later I will post a link to the two mods. :D

My computer just aint having it :( Crashes when setting any video options in the game. Crashes as soon as you hit new game.

Intro looks nice though.

Crashes for lots of people if you try and change the options in the game, best to change the options on the intro screen before loading it up.

Also check my posts if you using a graphics card without Pixel Shader 2.0, not that its easy to find out, went out the weekend to buy a Pixel Shader 2.0 card, and couldn't find one that said on the damn box..Pixel Shader 2.0, so how the fuck you supposed to know it is or isn't is beyond me.

Might be BTmod

It enlarges the map and inventory view, which is quite useful. There are loads of mods out there for this game already and if you're pissed off with any aspect of it there's probably a mod to tweak or change it.

Oops. forgot about that. Yes, that's the one - very useful it is too :)

I actully did some of th emain quest last night

I only need one more ***item*** for the vampirism cure quest. Question is, do I want to cure it? Being a four-day vampire is extremely kick arse (although the sun kills me in about 10 seconds flat)

changine the options on the intro screen makes no difference either. I've decided to save up and build myself a machine later in the year. I've got lots of spare bits at work to use up and we've got the space for it to sit in the loft!

You could try an alternative launcher called Oldblivion. It gets the game to use 1.0 pixel shaders, thus allowing it to run on some unsupported graphics cards.

I've used it to get Oblivion to run on my Radeon 9200 card, albeit with some graphical glitches.

Having a shite computer, I think I'll buy Morrowind now and wait a few years before playing oblivion...

Can anyone direct me to a shop or dungeon where I'm guaranteed to get a lockpick? I've got to a part of the main quest where I need one and can't go any further without it. 2 very odd dungeons later and I'm still pick-less. I can't find any in shops either.

Anyone doing the Arena quest? I'm up to brawler, pretty easy so far, give 'em a couple of fireballs when the gate opens, stay behind my shield and keep nipping out to bash 'em. Works for me!

A part of my current quest involves checking the position of the sun relative to a landmark, so I can find a place. Unfortunately, as a vampire, the entire sky is bright white with glare

If anyone recognises this quest, could they PM me with where I should go? (I've figured out the clue, I just can't follow it through cos I can't see the sun!)

Every quest I seem to be doing at the moment need bloodly lock picks.....

I can't help sorry Bob....

But I have found exploring random caves gives me many ++++++

I bought morrowind about 3 months ago and got really far into it, only because it was so old and I could get answers from the web....

Oblivion at the moment needs more play time from me, getting there but I'm only level 4 and happy :) I expect this game to be finished in maybe a year or two.

For me this game is a quick hop into another world, I can waste an hour or two away and it will still be here. Many people on the offical forums have finished all the main quests, I don't think I'll finish untill next year of more

Ah well, I'll keep exploring, there's probably a lock-pick side quest somewhere. ;)

I've just got the Prima game guide for it so there's probably something on one of its 370-odd pages about lockpicks, if not I'll be wanting my money back.

I feel like such a geek. I am a geek. I am revelling in my geek-hood. Geek me up Scotty.

Thanks to the three people who told me exactly where to go :)

I'm pacing this one out over a year or so too. I took about that long on Morrowind as well, and then did it again with a completely different character. (1st time fighter, 2nd time mage/thief)

It's a shame the paper map isn't very detailed for oblivion. The morrowind map had all the ruins and things on, so I could go adventuring to somewhere that I knew was worth it.

That said, I just stumbled across an Ayleid ruin where I pocketed a shed load of welkynd stones and some lovely enchanted armour and weapons. Didn't need those last two, so sold them for $$$ :) Unfortunately, all the chests in dungeons now seem to be Average locks. I don't have the locksmith or alteration skill to break them :( guess I'd better sit there casting spells or breaking picks for ages to bump the level up :(
