Egypt anti-government protests grow

Al Jaz reporting that soldiers in Alexandria are shaking hands with protesters. They've been sent in to enforce the curfew, yet they're being welcomed by the protesters!

If they are obeying Mubarak then that won't last very long. If the army remains loyal to Mubarak then sooner or later they will have to crush this movement. Either that or Mubarak goes.

So where do we stand? The curfew is being defied. The army has not used force to enforce the curfew as yet...

If they get through the night without any violence against the protesters, has the govt officially lost the army?

its noticeable how emaciated many of the conscript police look, especially compared to the secret/plain clothes police, I reckon many will soon join the protestors..

Curfew now extended to whole country according to guardian news feed.

Panic?

I think Mubarak will be forced to stand down. And from what Hilary CLinton was saying it points to behind the scences pressure on him to go.

Will he continue to try and stick it out? - especaily if we get this all over again toomorrow.
From what the protestors are saying they sound utterly determined to see this through - whearas I wonder how many coppers will want to turn up for work toomorrow?

Im not ready to think about that question yet, will give it a few hours at least to see if the army are going to do something horrific/have already done so, and whether we get to hear about it in a timely way.

The military have to decide. Either Mubarak must go or they will have to repress the demonstrators. There is no middle way. We watch and wait and see which side they choose?

Yes. They have to take sides, but the military is largely conscript, is it not? It may be like in Portugal – not the generals, but the rank and file who decide which side they take.

Tomorrow is key, & i don't doubt for one minute that the protesters will roll over. Mubarak has to go.

The Americans will be very upset, whatever Hilary Clinton says, if the army turns in favour of the people, after all they paid for most of it.

She was definitely making some "throw him under the bus noises." :)

I think they've decided that regime change is inevitable and are planning to manage it, rather than resist it.
