Egypt anti-government protests grow

That is my fear, this will be either a democratic uprising or an Islamic hardcore future.

The MB have as yet been rather reticent in getting involved. They're there but not yet exerting any control or seeming able to, as yet.

No, it is more than that. The army is made up largely of conscripts. Any general is rightly nervous of ever ordering a conscript army to turn its guns on its own people.

Well of course that is true. In a way Mubarak ordering the military onto the streets itself is a dangerous act and an admission of failure by Mubarak. He is admitting that his police and security services were defeated. Nevertheless I think that whichever way the military swing is more likely to be as a result of a collective decision by the higher ranks of the army as institution as a whole rather than as a result of indiscipline or desertions.

To me it's a no brainer. The army must tell Mubarak to leave. Surely this is preferable to firing on their own people (and as you quite rightly say risk your soldiers refusing)

Most of Egyptians support the Muslim brotherhood (40%) more than the UK government...

No they don't. They've been widely discredited in recent years for their compromises with the regime and barely scraped 20% in the last boycotted election for which they lost further credibility.

Bollocks do they. The Muslim brotherhood stood in the 2006 election and 80% of Egyptians boycotted the whole process. If they are so popular why didnt Egyptians vote for them?
So show me evidence that 40% of Egyptians support the MB or I will have to assume that you don't know what you are talking about and you are afraid of bogeymen

Ok, so do you think that Egypt will come from this free? For both men and women?

What, in the scenes we've seen over the last few days, gives any indication that the MB are a central player in this?

Egypt was an American stooge for years.

This is a huge turning point that I hadn't realised.

But......untill Saudi Arabia changes nothing will change as they have more money and power than any body in the world.

Sorry. I asked you for evidence for your claim that 40% of Egyptians support the MB.

One quick point on the MB bogeyman - i can fully understand people being wary after Iran in '79 but the MB are being built up as a threat to ensure the support of the US for the regime - don't fall for it.

Presidential Guard sent to protect TV Station.

Is this still a strategic priority in these days of mobile media?
