Donald Trump, the road that might not lead to the White House!

Meryl Streep managed to sneak in a classist swipe during her anti-Trump stuff by attacking MMA and American Football. Perhaps showing why 'the resistance' to Trump can't come from famous millionaires who obviously do not like the majority of Americans.

"Hollywood is crawling with outsiders and foreigners, and if we kick 'em all out, you'll have nothing to watch but football and mixed martial arts, which are not the arts."
That quite literally is an argument for keeping slavery.

Why can't they get it right? What is it that's stopping these very rich people from getting it? Is it genetic? Cultural?

I think that if they tried they could at least pretend not to be disdainful of the rest of us, or perhaps this is them trying.

Every Move You Make

“Over his two terms, Obama has created the most powerful surveillance state the world has ever seen. Although other leaders may have created more oppressive spying regimes, none has come close to constructing one of equivalent size, breadth, cost, and intrusiveness. From 22,300 miles in space, where seven Advanced Orion crafts now orbit; to a 1-million-square-foot building in the Utah desert that stores data intercepted from personal phones, emails, and social media accounts; to taps along the millions of miles of undersea cables that encircle the Earth like yarn, U.S. surveillance has expanded exponentially since Obama’s inauguration on Jan. 20, 2009.”

An incredible feat. Who could possibly have foreseen that something like this could be used with malicious intent...

Trivial, I know, but pictures of this boxing glove seem to be very popular on the internets...

I wonder if Trump himself - so far up his own arse - even gets things like this, or if he has a team he pays to explain when people are taking the piss out of him?

''Yes mister Trump sir, people are saying that looks like you.''

Streep made an excellent statement & it wasn't classist in any way.

its a textbook example of someone who probably doesn't even realise they are doing it. She's right to use the platform she has to call trump for what he is but that line...we define art...all rural hicks like is football and cage fighting...and of course the offhand reference to the little people who make and do in hollywood being outsiders.

I think that you are right, and in a way that makes it even worse.

What is the reference to American football and MMA about then? Why specifically assign them a status below 'the arts'?
They're not the arts. They're sports. I expect most artists, even poor ones, view art as a higher form of entertainment than sports. And plenty of rich people watch football. My takeaway from that incident was Trump's childish reaction, not a well deserved slap at him from an actress.

What? You think so you think others think?

Sport btw is the most integrated thing in the US - it's the reality of capital being colour blind.

Just what the fuck was that post?

I expect all people who identify as artists be snobby high handed hand fed buffoons who think as whole the massive neo-liberal concern they're involved in producing and selling is better than other peoples consumption of anything else. Now cut my lawn.
