Donald Trump - MAGAtwat news and discussion

Yep. Years ago, William Burroughs was asked to write a magazine piece as part of a series called 'What I would do if I were President of the United States'. He replied that he would do exactly what those who got him into power told him to do, and instead wrote a piece about what he would do if he were put in charge of the sewers.
It's here When Did You Stop Wanting to Be President?, but you may want to skip past people like Ronald Reagan's response.

As it now seems to be a certainty (if you believe certain polls), what's on the cards for the next time round?

Immigration, another travel ban and war with Mexico?

1. Ukraine will lose against Russia after he pulls all support
2. NATO will be thrown into chaos as a result of the above; he'll threaten to withdraw if other countries don't pay more
3. He'll withdraw (again) from the Paris Agreement
4. Israel and Saudi accord will be back on the agenda
5. China will invade Taiwan and he'll waffle and do nothing
6. He'll pardon and free everyone convicted over January 6th
7. The US will experience civil outrage that starts to look and feel like the beginnings of a civil war

Often the front runners a year out are not on the ballot in November. Things can change quickly in a year.

I'm old enough to remember Jimmy Carter running for President. No one knew who he was until he displaced a number of previous frontrunners. It seemed like he came out of nowhere. There may be candidates on both sides that will show themselves with time. Or, we could be doomed to a repeat of the 2020 election. Who knows at this point.

I think Dean Phillips might be it as far as last-minute candidates go - he was already too late to be on the Democratic primary ballot in Nevada, anybody else planning to challenge Biden will have to get their paperwork in within a few days or they will start missing a lot more deadlines

odd thing about political polls is most normally people just avoid them

"hello sir madam we like to get you opinion on this polling data"

" oh fuck off, not today or sorry a little bit busy maybe another time"

now can anyone ever get a trumper to shut the fuck up regardless of the situation

polls might be a little off :hmm:

Hopefully he'll get so excited about a 2nd term that he'll have a heart attack.
Reminds me of the night the vermin got into No 10 in 2010. I was in London and working late, and when I got on the train at Euston we'd just set off and people were talking about how bad it was going to be, and one chap said Cameron was probably masturbating in the toilet at No 10. After a grim day it made people in the carriage laugh.

I don't think his strategy of relentlessly attacking Judge Arthur Engoron is going to help sway the opinion of the person who will decide the case, Judge Arthur Engoron

The judge has already decided he's guilty, it's just down to whatever the judge decides is a reasonable penalty, and Trump is just winding them up as much as possible, it's Trump at maximum bonkers level.

I think there's a strategy of trying to get Engoron to give them grounds for an appeal, by excluding Trump or otherwise cutting his testimony short.

It doesn't necessarily even have to be an appeal with any chance of success, so long as it spins things out for long enough.

He’s letting trump get on with it now. Enough rope etc. with civil stuff in the US, the judge can infer from answers or non answers and use it in his conclusion.unlike a criminal trial obvs

Polling is always a little generous this far out and shrink when people are actually paying close attention.

also more polarised groups would bring a strong result this far out

trumps playing to his base but everyone is watching it play out and know what they get if they vote for him now so we see how it pans out

Polling has been really shitty and inaccurate in the last couple of presidential elections, the worrying part is that the shittiness and inaccuracy has been in massively underestimating Trump's support - polls in 2016 and 2020 showed Clinton and Biden with big leads, both times the difference came down to fewer than 100,000 votes in swing states, IIRC
