I wonder how much he'll actually reduce overall immigration numbers - the business interests his administration serves depend on an easily-exploitable army of undocumented migrant labour. But I think there will be some performative cruelty for Trump to throw like raw meat to his base - ICE and/or the military roughing up some migrants and separating families.

This is exactly what I think will happen a few high profile raids or some such shit, but little real change.

There's definitely some downsides but I think I might have done the same thing in his shoes - people who think Fauci belongs in prison wouldn't have changed their minds if Trump hadn't pardoned him, and Trump would have pardoned the J6 crowd whatever happened.
