Donald Trump - MAGAtwat news and discussion

It’s not a helpful message because it’s not true. To some extent, it is pie. Britain pulled in the equivalent of $45 trillion from its colonisation of India — that’s 45 years’ worth of its own GDP. You think that didn’t provide more “rights” for its citizens, in terms of infrastructure and power? The point isn’t that you can remove inequalities without hitting the privileged at all. The point is that the privileged don’t deserve and never deserved to be privileged in the first place. The further point is that many of the people that feel like their privileged rights are going to be lessened aren’t actually privileged at all and won’t be hurt by more equality. But these people need engagement that doesn’t just trample all over their perceptions, particularly when at times they might actually be technically correct that they might stand to lose something.

Do you mean that they won't change their minds even if we keep calling them thick and racist?

I’ve been reading about Trump’s behaviour in court and it’s very much like the behaviour of someone with ADHD.
He’s spending a lot of time with his eyes closed, so people are speculating that he’s nodding off but I think he might be trying to both listen & STFU - he’s almost incapable of doing either, especially the latter, and he knows another outburst could land him in jail, so he’s limiting his sensory input to help him both concentrate and resist his compulsions. Fuck him all the same.

I put it down to him sulking but you could be right.

How can Trumpist cult members be deprogramed?

Probably near impossible. At least with those I've interacted with online and irl.

It's just endless doubling down and moving further and further away from reality.

The rhinos are a more open to discussion and criticism of the direction that the GOP has moved in, but their voices tend to be drowned out.

Not only drowned out but also purged from the party. As I said on another thread, Trumpism is fascism and by extension, the GOP is now a fascist party.

dickheads and scum

Dunno.

They seem like a bunch of people on a day out, or at a game cheering in their team.

This is the problem with some of the Trump army. They seem it as a game rather than serious politics about the working class and how capitalism shits on not just their "team" but the opposition.

Good luck to those who take the time to engage with them. Personally, can't do it anymore.

Cohen's said loads more like that. He's an arsehole and a demonstrated liar (so the prosecution's trying to back up everything he says - for example with the recording he made of Trump agreeing to one of the payments) but he clearly doesn't give a shit any more

I wasn't sure what the judge could really do about it - free speech 'n all buuuuuuuuuuuuut:

Donald Trump may have broken his court-ordered gag order by getting supporters to speak for him, legal analysts have said.

Several media outlets reported that Trump wrote notes in court for his political supporters to say outside the courtroom during his New York criminal trial, thereby potentially circumventing the gag order. The order prevents Trump from speaking about the jury or potential witnesses in the hush money case.

New York attorney David R. Lurie wrote on X, formerly Twitter on Tuesday that notes Trump passed to his supporters could be evidence that he had violated the gag order.

"Those notes are not privileged documents, and if their contents mirrored some of what Trump's GOP cronies said to the press, the notes could evidence violations of the Court's order," he wrote.

video showing to the side of that article says from journalist who read what Trump was writing during witness testimonies, and says he was editing the quotes of the people who were appearing for him.

Yeah, I think the gag order explicitly bars him from even directing surrogates to pass commentary under his direction. Editing and adding notes to pre-prepared statements would likely come under the definition of 'directed' commentary...

It's then down to whether or not the judge decides to open that can of worms by prosecuting trump on that score and issuing a wider gagging order to his cronies...
