Well yeah that's my take on it. As far as I can see it's like persuading some mug to buy a magic bean for a hundred quid and going 'therefore the contents of my bean warehouse are worth a billion'. It's being reported kind of seriously though, am I missing something?
Is there some vulture capitalist happy to use this as a way to bail Trump out? Though why they'd not just donate if that was the case I don't know.
Not likely, I grant you.To the tune of three billion dollars?
I don't think he'd ever be able to convert it into anything like $3 billion in actual money by selling the shares, their price would probably nosedive if he started selling huge amounts of stock. His best bet might be to find some sucker who'd be willing to spend billions to buy all the shares in a money-losing social media business, and I'm not sure if even Elon Musk is dumb enough to do that again
Or people could just buy the shares and give him a lot of money in a way that would not breach campaign finance law. He could get loads off foreign oligarchs; even foreign states and noone would be able to do anything about it.
He's got the money, or at least boasting he's minted. Either way, not too bright of him, but he can never resist a bit of bragging

has he got any?He just does not want to use his own money.

One legal analyst called Trump’s Friday morning rant “the dumbest thing he could possibly have done”.
“That is a direct admission by him that he has the money,” Nick Akerman, a former assistant US attorney in the southern district of New York who was a prosecutor during the Watergate scandal that brought down Richard Nixon, told CNN.
“Keep in mind, even with this operating money or cash that he supposedly has, if he doesn’t pony up and put up a bond, Letitia James is going to be able to go in and basically put restraining orders on all of his bank accounts. Everything that relates to him and all of that money is going to be tied up and frozen. So if he’s really got that money, he’s got to put it up.”
It would have to be AI generated, given it doesn’t exist.Trump's lawyers: Our client has tried everything but he has been unable to cover the $450 million bond, the amount is far too excessive and needs to be reviewed by the courts
Trump: I'M A VERY RICH MAN, I HAVE ALMOST $500 MILLION IN CASH AND I WANT TO SPEND IT ON MY CAMPAIGN
I'm surprised his post didn't include a picture of him Scrooge McDuck-ing on his pile of cash
It's off to a flying start today....

The problem is that a lot of the people who are going to prop up / inflate the price are the maga lot. Like a gamestop. Even if it does make trump technically rich on paper for a few minutes it's not going to hold because the company as a business just doesn't actually hold that inflated value.
Donald Trump has just a few hours left to prevent the seizure of his assets in a business fraud case that threatens his fabled property empire. A deadline for him to put up the $464m (£365m) penalty for inflating his net worth is due to expire on Monday. If he fails to either secure a bond or delay the process in court, the authorities in New York can freeze his bank accounts or target his properties.
I thought he had to put up the bond before being able to appeal?
Meanwhile, a New York appeals court agreed to hold off collection of his $454 million civil fraud judgment — if he puts up $175 million within 10 days. If he does, it will stop the clock on the collection and prevent the state from seizing his assets while he appeals.
The rich and shameless rarely get their comeuppance, sadly. It's stuff like this which is why I never hold my breath when it comes to Trump getting his comeuppance.
They already had a green light ffsInteresting game of chicken. Now maybe we find out that Trump hasn't got 175m in liquid assets, even if he claimed 400m+ (while under oath iirc?). If he doesn't pony up, the court gets to take it as read that he is either completely unable to find it, or that he's burying his head in the sand and hoping that it somehow goes away - either of those things is a green light to take everything he's got.
