Do only sad losers still post on internet forums?

Dunno there was something called the Wurlitzer.

We have one in Worthing, used to be used for afternoon tea dances on a regular basis, but with the changing demographics, it looks like there's only 7 events this year.

These instruments, also known as Theatre or Cinema Organs, made quite a name for themselves throughout the 1920s & 30s as they appeared in the major picture houses of UK cities. Their purpose (to begin with) was to replace the too quiet pianos and the too expensive orchestras of cinemas in the accompaniment of silent films. Therefore, they were equipped to produce hauntingly similar sounds that an orchestra might produce, as well as many novelty sound effects to compliment the action on-screen. Even in the days after the silent pictures, going to cinema was more than just seeing a film, these instruments rose in the spotlight to accompany stage shows, gang shows, Saturday morning pictures and of course the interlude, which lasted right up till the end of the 60’s.

Facebook is dead, my guess would be Reels represents its only growth sector with Meta finding far more success via Instagram, mainly because it's aping the vastly greater success of TikTok. Forums on the other hand are very much back tbh, they're just taking the form of live-response, highly localised setups like Discord.
Got bored halfway through reading this. ;)

Kind of appropriate that the thread should become a magnet for more kinds of organ.

Here's a short 2005 video about the Christie theatre organ that was in the former Granada Walthamstow.

The Granada was renamed several times before finally closing in 2003. There was then a long running campaign to stop it becoming a church. The Council finally acquired the building in 2019 and following renovation it's due to open this year as the Soho Theatre.

The Christie organ consoles were moved into storage in 2020. Not sure if it's planned to move them back. And the Soho Theatre doesn't appear to include film projection facilities. It will however have a "buzzing bar and foyer" "where artists, audiences and locals can meet and mingle".

A tour of the pipes and mechanisms of the mighty Wurlitzer organ at the Assembly Hall Worthing, West Sussex.

It's amazing what's behind it...
